A-MAZ-ING! He is a wonderful teacher with a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm. If I could, I would take all of his classes. His lectures are easy to take notes on, his pop quizzes are easy if you know Presidents or take a few moments to skim the reading the night before...his class is truly enjoyable and a good one. I learned so much.

Having gone on to grad school, I recognize now how good Prof Cheape was. I found Prof Cheape to be engaging and extremely helpful. He demanded a lot only to make you a better student. The only folks who struggled and complained in his class were those who were lazy or expected great grades for mediocre work. I'm glad I took his class.

Took for an upper level history class several years ago; boring subject and he managed to keep it that way. Relatively difficult as compared to other classes; there are better options at Loyola.

If you must take this class, READ. He gives quizzes at least once a week and it will help you follow along during his lectures. His chicken scratch is difficult to read on the chalkboard so try to sit close. His teaching style is non-traditional but in lecture form. Hard grader on papers but not so much on tests.

Take this class if you are actually interested in history. If you are, his lectures are funny and lively. Frequently gives pop quizzes, which you will ace if you follow the readings. Fair grader with the tests and papers.

I've never had to read so much. Everyday I'm constantly doing something for his class. His exams are hard. He gives a lot of pop quizzes. He assigns 3 papers. I'm a good writer but I got a C+ on the 2 we had so far. It is impossible to get an A. I'm struggling to even keep a B, when i have As in all my other classes. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

Awesome teacher who knew alot about his subject. There was a lot taught for one semester, but if you went to talk with him after class (especially about papers) he definately helps you out. One of the best teachers I've had at Loyola.

Not hard class, take that with a grain of salt though as im a Bio-Chem major. Be sure to attend class as there are about 14 short quizzes. If you just research your paper, can clearly transcribe your thoughts, and stay on top of the readings there is no reason to not obtain at least a B+. Be sure to attend office hours hes SUPER HELFUL FOR PAPAERS

Dr. Cheape is the best teacher I've had at Loyola. Although his class may get a little tough, especially for non-history majors, he's willing to work with you more than anyone else on the campus that I've come across. He has a genuine respect for students and a passion for history. Definitely take his class

He requires a lot of reading, but he is deffinatly an expert in everything that he teaches. You can learn a lot just by showing up in class, but you better research papers well in advance. A cool guy during office hours too. Knows a ton about baseball history too

cheape's class really isnt as hard as people are saying. as long as you read the main textbook, skim through the others, take some notes during the lectures and make sure that your papers make sense you'll be just fine. hes a good guy and he'll give you an A if you do what you are supposed to do.

Cheape's papers are hard but do-able as long as you maintain a steady working pace on them. His tests are ALL open-book (don't let that mislead you, they are very tough)and his final is a take-home (again, don't be fooled-VERY tough). Otherwise, he's a funny Southerner with beady little eyes.
