Harkins gives a ton of homework for such a low level class. Get ready to read the textbook and write 1-2 pages for each class until a little past halfway through the semester. He grades the formal papers ruthlessly and make sure your works cited is 100% correct or get ready to lose 10 points potentially.

hardest grader you'll ever have. takes points of for literally anything he can possibly find. can't miss 10 minutes of class or he will try to fail you. worst english course i've ever taken. creates a negative environment in the classroom everyday.

Although he is a great guy and caring about his students, his class is quite hard. Be ready for homework the first day, and lots of homework. Mandatory attendance, skip more then one class you'll be behind. No late work accepted, can hand the assignment in through his mailbox before the end of the day though. Class was tough, but learned a lot.

If you have issues at home or with your health such as a sick family member or you yourself have many doctors appointments, don't expect him to be understanding. You can't give notes or anything even if it's a completely reasonable reason to be absent. He is also a tough grader and is meticulous about things like you can't use the word is in essays

He is a great professor, he cares a lot about his students. There is a lot of homework, but it is not hard. Make sure to apply the corrections he gives you on your essay, and you will be satisfied with your grade. Easy grade if you do the work. Make sure to show up to class.

During the semester you will hate him but after you leave the class you will love him. He is an amazing guy but a tough grader. Do not expect to get a 100 on any of his essays. You need to try hard or you will not pass!!!

Prof. Harkins is hard to like right away, but he grows on you. Expect to read the book several times a week and make time for the assigned homework, because although its not too much, it takes some time to finish. He is hard on grammar, spelling, and punctuation in essays. Overall, he is helpful and is there if you need him.

He is a tough grader. Harkins doesn't except late classworkhomework. If you need help, you won't be getting it from him, so you might as well ask a classmate. I stopped going after he kept failing my papers i would right.

Harkins knows what he is talking about. This was about his 70th semester or something close to it. He gives a lot of homework, and won't except it late (unless you use the one-time pass). There was only one test, the final, but there was three essays. He takes attendance every day, and will take points off. But, he is always willing to help you out

He gives way too many assignments plus you'll still have other big essays to write. Every class a reading assignment is due. Don't take him if you don't want a lot of work. Also, he's a hardddddd grader. Worst class ever. Wish I would've read these before taking him.

He has been the biggest inspiration in my life. He's such a good hearted man who will make you work your grade. At first you will be intimidated by the hard work he puts you through but you will realize how very worth it the entire class is. He cares for his students. He's helped me ace essays by showing us how to write properly. Thanks so much

He's a great teacher, and hes always there if you have questions. "Any questions, hassles, hangups?" is what he says after every class! PEER REVIEW IS A MUST or your essay grade will be lowered a letter. He does have appointments that you can attend to go to his office and have him proof read your essay before its done. Only quizzes. Open notes

Great teacher who really cares about his students! I had him for english 101. Pretty good at sarcasm. He is a VERY difficult grades but will help you if you ask for it. Great for English majors and teachers. You NEED to attend his class. All quizzes are open book and fairly simple. There are no tests, only essays and one oral presentation.

I've heard quite a few complaints about Harkins, but overall he is a good teacher. His grading is a bit tough, but he just wants to teach his students how to write a proper essay. Plus, he is always available for instructor conferences and will tell you exactly what you can do to improve your writing. And his sarcasm is hilarious!

All quizzes are open book and notes. He's really clear in teaching how to go about writing each paper, which is nice, but can be boring if you already know what you're doing, since attendance is mandatory. He's a talker for sure, but I never minded it. He knows what he's doing. Do the homework and the papers and you'll be fine. DO NOT COMMA SPLICE!

If English is important to your major I would take him. He talks a lot and has given some trick questions on his first couple quizzes like "where is the ic building?" Kind of not fair. Opportunities for ec. Show up for class. All quizzes are open notes but short amount of time
