He knows the material and knows how to present the material in an interesting manner. There are reading throughout the course, of course, but attending lectures will help to make the class easy. 3 essay which are straightforward and easy to do if you attend lecture and discussion. TA's grade the papers. Great class

From the beginning this guy was just a drone. He is the worst HumCore writing leader I've had in all three quarters. He laughs at his own jokes and has this incessant need to be looked in the eye. He was surpisingly lenient with late assignments as long as there was an acceptable excuse. If possible, don't take him.

Clever teacher. Tries to engage in interesting topics with students. Gradings are done by TA so go visit them! Reading book is mandatory to get an A. some readings are hard because they are from 17th century writers/philosophers

I recommend taking a lecture with him, he's witty and he knows what he's talking about. His lectures are more like open forums, especially when it comes to the controversial topics. The lecture notes he provides has everything you need to get an A on the midterm and final, but you'll need the book to complete the essays.

1hr20min can seem really long, especially once you get used to his teaching style. A very funny professor, though. He does his best to make some of the boring materials interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I think it definately helps to go. But ALL of the grading is done by the TA, so go to your TA for help.

Lecture not mandatory, but GO b/c he explains everything you need in your 3 essays, which are what your grade is based on. disc not mandatory either, but if you get Pete Westmoreland, you're set cause he's very helpful. funny, eccentric, lively, keeps you entertained and thinking! i love him!

Interesting lectures, but gets boring after first 40 minutes. Main gist is in beginning of lecture. Easiness is really dependent on which TA you get. They do ALL the grading.

Clever and witty teacher. Prefers "Chaz" or Charles to the more formal name. His lectures are informal and are designed to provoke thought and discussion. Papers follow class discussions but you will be lost if you dont read - plus, its YOUR loss if you dont read this stuff... its fabulous. Great class - esspecially because it keeps you up at 8am

great professor... loved his class. can be confusing at times, but he's great about being asked questions. i go back to him for help in other philosophy classes when the teacher won't answer my questions... highly recommend him to everyone!

Funny Guy. If a teacher can find a way to keep you interested at 8am in the morning, he's ok by me! Papers are thought provoking, but you have to go to class to keep up with the, at times, confusing material. Charles likes to be calle dby his first name, and is in love with Buffy the Vampire slayer - we even watched an episode in class :) Overall, good class. Recommended.

really cool estatic guy, really tries to help but sometimes fails short. as you'll see with most humcore teachers, once you are on his non-A Grade-side you probably wont be on it again. get on his good side and you might be alright. being pretty or looking nerdy seems to help too, as you'll eminate the i deserve an A in the class aura to him.

The worst teacher I've had at UCI. He expects you to encompass a million different thoughts in one essay, all the while not being clear about what he wants. He was not motivating at all, and I dreaded his class every day.

Prof. Otwell is a great professor to have. His lectures aren't always the most clear but he knows this and won't get offended if you don't understand what he means. Go see him at office hours, he's a good man, and has an interesting background in jazz paino.

Very chill discussion leader. His midterms and finals are pretty easy. He grades essays a bit harder, but still, he's a disucssion leader you'd want.

the class wasted my time. boring, unhelpful, really unclear, doesn't add to the lecture at all... I wouldn't suggest remaining in his class if you get him, unless you have a high-tolerance for frustration.

Could stand to be much more clearer. A question asked takes about at least 10 minutes for him to answer, and even then, you still can't fathom what he said. He seems like a nice guy, though-- said he wanted to be a rock star if he wasn't a prof.
