Classes were often hard to sit through. He talks like a textbook. Way too much work for a mandatory 301 class, but sometimes it was alright. One-on-one he's helpful and nice. Lots of readings (textbook and online) to do. Tests are a lot of work to study for, based on readings and slides (found online).

Turner is UNBELIEVING boring. The class is 2 hours and 15 minutes long. Sometimes we watch movies but he still lectures for 75 minutes. He is a nice guy but by God its a snoozefest. We had 10 people enrolled in class but only 6 people ever really showed up. He does have an attendance policy but he reads word from word off the slides which are on BB

I've taken 361 and 371 with Turner, and he is the man. I'm not a smad major (FS minor). He's crystal clear and really knows material. He's also approachable, and down to earth, really one of the best professors I've had in any subject. Tests are heavy on lecture, which he does great, but readings are about 20% of tests. Grades fair on rare papers.

Turner is a good guy and he keeps the material interesting. The only problem is the occasional long lecture that can become mind numbingly boring. Also, some movies are painful to watch (Jane Erie... ECCCHH!) If you pay attention and study a bit, You'll be fine.

I like Turner. His tests are really quite easy, so I don't understand why many of the students on here are complaining. He does talk at length on topics, but I think he is a kind, approachable, and reasonable man. I've had three classes and earned an A in each.

I didn't understand him at first - he seemed to ramble and discourage participation. But once I got used to his style, which is mainly lecture, I understood that he really tries to be interesting and engaging. He's a good man - he cares about students, and he's always willing to help. Overall, a great professor.

Anyone can learn to love Turner. He is a WONDERFUL man, and if you need him he will be there for you. You know he likes you when he's able to remember your name. Don't worry about zoning out in class, it doesn't matter. Just study the slides like no ones business and you can get an A.

Knows the stuff well, extremely well, yet seems to distance himself from students. Interesting information about each type of media through powerpoint, many additional readings, and other means. You should know authors, the exact wordings for each of their viewpoints, and learn to love the words: spirals of remediation. Good overall class.

Turner is so funny and laid-back during the summer. Grades fair-to-hard and gives lots of feedback to improve film reviews. Surprisingly also very knowledgeable about creative writing.

Turner really is a nice guy, even though the class gets pretty boring at times. This semester, he makes students do presentations for half the class, so that makes it more interesting (but you have to present for an hour). Reynolds has better ratings, but don't be afraid of Turner, he's harmless.

Night classes are not fun to begin with, but overall it wasn't bad. Lots of film clips, everything is in PowerPoint which you can get online. Study for the exams! Does offer extra credit one time. Strict attendance policy!

Babbles on and on without caring what students have to add. Discussion is nonexistent. Reads off the power points, which makes him even more boring. He's not the most stimulating or interesting, but he's nice. A good guy.

Knows the subject but shows no enthusiasm. Seems to grade as if he will never see an A. Inconsistent in grading and in treatment of different students. Changes syllabus throughout courses and I feel that is completely unacceptable from a professional. Disrespectful to students in many indirect ways.

People talk a lot of poop about Dr. T, but he's really a kind hearted guy who cares a lot about the class. He won't take the time to learn your name and, yes, he does talk a lot and uses jargon that takes some deciphering to figure out, but he still offers a fun class. This old man kicks booty.

Didn't know what to expect going in, but he ended up being a good professor. Unclear and confusing at times, but tries his best to make this late class interesting. Definitely have to study for tests, but they weren't as bad as I expected.

Has a lot of interesting things to say and shows a ton of movie clips. Tests aren't too bad IF you don't skip class (only meets once a week for 3 hours.) 301 is a SMAD requirement, so you can't get around taking it anyway, but it's a decent class.

Turner himself is not the best teacher, but this class was excellent. While his lectures are long, he puts EVERY slide show online. A bit too much leaders, but you learn what he teaches. Turner is as he is, nnice and a little distant.
