M. Purdy is an excellent professor! I've taken two courses with him, and although the lecture material is at times dry, he always finds a way to make the course interesting. He gives very good feedback, and it is obvious he cares about your progress and learning! He is also the nicest person!

Comment:

Professor Purdy is a great prof! His lectures are always interesting (though very long) and he always gives helpful feedback. There is a lot of reading involved, however he is always more than willing to help! He also is a very kind person, would take his class again.

Professor Purdy is a wonderful professor. I had severe difficulties in this class because the content in itself was difficult. Furthermore, his teaching style was not conducive to my learning style. However, when I went to his office hours for help many times, I learned how intelligent, well-spoken and inspirational he truly was.

Tough to evaluate. He is certainly the most interesting prof I've had at Western, and the comments that suggest he's a tough marker were not, to my mind accurate. Tests are straight-forward if you pay attention. Course is very organized, but he certainly has some far-out ideas. Enjoyment will ultimately depend on whether you agree with him, I guess

I really marvel at the Hallmark-style comments that Purdy receives on this thread. In fact, Dr. Purdy is the very incarnation of academic mediocrity. He has that special gift of telling naive, young students exactly what they want to hear. If you feel "moved" by Purdy's teaching, then I do feel quite sorry for you.

If I ever look back in my university career I have to say Dr.Purdy was one of the people that most inspired me. I loved each one of his classes because he just has the special gift of putting your brain to work. I love him!

Although I can admit that he is somewhat of a hard marker, I didn't find him to be arrogant at all. In fact, I thought he was funny and very intelligent. I had him twice and I think he's amazing!

Tony Purdy is one of the most distnguished academics I have ever met, and I am shocked aafter reading these ads. He asks a lot perhaps because he is brilliant and has the courage to expect people to think and work hard. Warm and helpful human being, if you ever bother to try and know him.

Ridiculously pretentious and dogmatic. Also quite condescending. Seems like the type of prof who venges on the students his own feeling of mediocrity. I came to this class for his big (carefully crafted) reputation. What a disappointment! Intellectually, very, very ordinary.

Professor Purdy marks papers very thoroughly, but seems to zoom in on the banal, while dismissing new ideas outright. He clearly misunderstood the logic behind certain assertions that have since been accepted (indeed, applauded) by more open-minded academics. Well-organized but boring classes.
