One of if not the best professor I've had at W&M. The ease with which he flows through the material while explaining it in a concise, easily understandable manner (and his dry humor) made each lecture a pleasure. The way in which he structured the class (10 problem sets & 2 tests) make it so you can focus on the concepts instead of the workload.

Abelt is extremely intelligent. However, that doesn't necessarily equate to a good professor. His lectures were hard to follow and I felt like I never learned the material from the actual lectures. His tests were not THAT difficult, but I didn't know any of the material on the exams. Tests didn't really match content that we learned.

Abelt is a very good professor. Tests are fair but hard and he provides multiple old exams to help prepare. Likeable guy. READ AND STUDY ALL TEXTBOOKS LISTED - necessary for test preparation.

Abelt is essentially Bob Ross if Bob Ross was a Chemistry Professor. I had him for Orgo I two years ago which was terrible because it was an 8am class and his style put me right to sleep. But now i have him for advanced orgo in the afternoon and honestly, i love it. He's funny and class almost feels meditative. It's weird but it works.

Abelt is a blessing in disguise. Be aware, organic chemistry itself is a very hard class. He is not the greatest lecturer (kind of dull and hard to follow), but he gives you 2 practice exams that look just like the one you will take, so they are easy compared to others. ALSO, he has 4 exams, but drops the lowest grade!

Abelt was an amazing professor, especially since I was concerned about taking orgo for the first time. You don't have to go to class, b/c his lectures are online, but I would recommend going anyway. Def sit near the front of the class because he does not speak super loud. He also does a review every Sunday. 4 tests, final, homework.

Professor Abelt is an amazing professor that made going to 8 am lecture enjoyable, and orgo understandable. He's really accessible outside of class for any help you might need. Overall, I highly recommend him.

Do not let the 8am scare you!! He has a very soft voice so you need to sit at the front of the class, but a plus side of that is that you get to hear all the jokes he makes under his breath. He is passionate about Chemistry and if you go to his office hours he will stay as long as you need, talking about chemistry or just life in general! 11/10

Good Professor, Organic Chemistry is just hard. Partial credit will be your best friend in this class, and make sure you understand the stuff for concepts and not just memorization.

Don't let the 8 AM scare you, Abelt's tests are much easier than Walk's. Abel talks fast but since he posts podcasts of his lectures, you can always go back and make more thorough notes. Orgo takes a lot of work o begin with but Abelt is very helpful. He makes a lot of dad jokes.

Professor Ablet is by far one of the most thoughtful teachers I know. He was very understanding when I would go to his office hours and ask him several questions. Exams are kinda tough, but if you review the homework and go to his office hours you'll be fine. Make sure to take advantage of the review sessions. They're more helpful than you'd think.

Dr. Abelt is pretty clear and gives great lectures. He's very funny and he even posts his lectures online! He goes very fast in lecture, but because the lectures are on blackboard, I was able to go back and take better notes. His tests can be tricky, but they are short and representative of what we learned in class.

Excellent professor. Came in scared out of my mind of Orgo and left with an A and an eagerness to take Orgo II. Pay attention to his hand-written examples and study the practice tests- you'll be surprised at how similar they are to the real deal. Book can be helpful to reinforce topics but not necessary. Awesome class.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Brilliant man with a passion for Organic chemistry and for his students. Very helpful if you need him. Powerpoints can be difficult to follow but his examples he does by hand are extremely helpful. Barely used the book. But STUDY THE PRACTICE TESTS HE POSTS- very similar to the real deal. Left with an A.

Advanced Organic Chemistry; he's such a great professor and the nicest person ever. the subject itself is hard, but he makes it easier and actually allows you to not freak out. Just learn his teaching method. The first few days in class are overwhelming, but it gets better after a month or 2. Material is hard, you will have to study, but he's great

How great is it that W&M has 2 fabulous Orgo teachers? I took Abelt's summer Orgo class, and I have to say, he was on top of his stuff and made it as easy as possible. I came in afraid of orgo (don't we all?) and walked out feeling pretty okay, and with a better grade than I expected. PAY ATTENTION to the practice tests, the real things are similar
