Prof Rivers is the kindest, most caring professor at Mount Holyoke. He genuinely wants to see you succeed and he will go above and beyond to help you out. Class discussions are lively and interesting - I was apprehensive because his classes are very speaking intensive, but my French improved a TON after taking his class. Definitely recommend him!

Professor Rivers is AMAZING. He's a sweetheart. This was my first French class taught entirely in French and he has been so patient with me. Class moved quickly from being uncomfortable to being super comfortable! He also brings brain food (Dunkin Donuts etc :)) before we take tests, and you can review those too(the tests)

OMG I hate this man. He is so unclear. One second, he tells you he wants you to do one thing, and the next he tells you that you overdid it...he's just really clear about what he wants, but really unclear how he wants it, if that makes any sense. NEVER AGAIN.

He's alright. he didn't make me feel very comfortable speaking and sometimes seemed dismissive. I'm not his biggest fan, but I don't hate him either. At times, he was kind of unfriendly, but C'est la vie! I don't think I want to take a class with him again.

I've had him as my professor for both my 215 and 225 class. He is amazing! He creates a safe space in which I speak french without being self conscious! He is a caring person, dedicated to the class, approachable and incredibly intelligent and humble. Would recommend him as a professor to everyone interested in learning French!

I. Love. Him. Very easy to understand even though the entire class is taught in French, you only need to do work if it's your turn to present otherwise you don't actually have to do the reading or anything. He's so helpful and awesome and I want to take another class with him!!!!

Fabulous professor. Contemporary France is all about French popular culture; much better than reading endlessly dry novels! He's also very easy to understand, is super-friendly, and really cares about whether or not you feel like you gained something from his class.

Wonderful man! Very kind and funny and intelligent. However, his classes are predictable and he can be picky about papers. But all in all, if you put in the effort and talk to him if you're having trouble, you'll be fine. Its a fun class and he's quite inspiring in his generosity.

I will never understand the Chris Rivers fanclub. He's, like, the definition of being an okay professor. He's just so right down the middle. I was so absolutely indifferent to him and his class. The only thing was that it was extremely, extremely easy.

What a great prof! Really! He's such an engaging, brilliant, caring and...yeah, amazing prof. He gave me so much confidence, that I actually started speaking French...And let me tell you, I've never seen such great analytical skills in a prof...ever at MHC. I learned to write good papers because of his advice. His class was wonderful.

C.Rivers loves to have the class members "be" the teachers. This is my second class with him, and he is a big supporter of pairing students up and having them lead the class. It's great (even though a bit intimidating) because it makes you improve your speaking french!
