Honestly, this is the worst class I have ever taken and if this class is anything to go by I will never take a class with this man ever again. We would just sit there because none of us knew what was going on. The only reason I got the grade I did was because he had to round or he would of had to submit everyones grade as a F.

He is brilliant but very dry. I wanted to learn so much from his class, but it was not taught effectively. Each class felt like an episode of Dora the Explorer: he would ask us a question, wait in silence for a few seconds, then answer it himself. If you just pretend to pay attention, you'll be able to suffer through the class, but it's a waste.

Lecture material gets very interesting as the semester goes on and is doable if you study hard and devote a LOT of time to studying. If you're interested in vet. medicine, this class provides a ton of great information. However, lab exams are nearly impossible to do well on and make up a lot of your grade. Expect this to be a difficult class.

He expects a lot out of you, but have learned more from him than any other biology professor. I would definitely recommend taking his class. The tests are harder because they are essay questions that require you to think in a different way than other courses, but he is more than willing to help, but don't take the lab because it's too much work.

Long since graduated student. He is a tough professor with a thick exterior. However, extremely intelligent and approachable if you try. He challenges one to succeed beyond what they expect. Don't avoid his courses - seek them out if you want to push yourself. I'm a doctor now. :)

He's an interesting person but this class was hard. All essay exams, there was so much material I felt like I had to nonstop study and I still didn't do well. Grades harsh in my opinion. If your up for a challenge then this is the class for you.

Quite possible the hardest BIO class I've ever encountered...plan on spending all nighters for every exam..30/40+ hours for sure..His lab exam made one student start crying..need I say more?Hes extremely intelligent but has a horrible way of conveying the info. & is pretty patronizing. & plan on staying 2+ hours after the lab period for HIS researc

Unrealistic expectations for the students. Only taught the first two weeks of class and had the students teaching the entire semester. VERY harsh grader, often I would consider completely unfair. Lots of opinion-based questions where I found he feels only his opinion is the right one. Knows his stuff but is boring if you aren't interested in BIO

Don't take him unless you plan to go into embryology and aren't taking any other demanding classes. It is very possibly the most demanding bio at JMU. His tests are essay and RIDICULOUS amounts of material.

He treated on non-biology major class as if we were all bio majors. The class consisted of a group presentation and paper. He was really harsh on groups when they presented. You have to teach yourself all the science that you are supposed to know for the class. If you arent a bio major or interested in teaching yourself biology dont take it.

Hardest teacher ever. Don't expect to do well. I studied like crazy and still did poorly on his VERY HARD ESSAY TESTS. He's very nice, and I learned a lot, but he grades so hard that I still got a D.
