I was a bit skeptical about taking Canitz class because I didn't hear great comments about her, however she is by far one of my favorite profs at UNB. She gives awesome feedback and is willing to help students who show that they are actually trying and doing the work she assigns. She is very insightful and enthusiastic about what she teaches!

The worst prof I've ever had, by far. She's a very tough marker, and expects all her students to be reading and interpreting at a level much higher than a bachelors degree. If you don't have the same enthusiasm for the subject as she does, she will question your integrity. Does NOT inspire creativity or original thought. Awful.

I am an A student. I work hard, do well, and like to think I have a reputation as being a good student, as well as being easy to get along with. Canitz not only questioned my integrity, but acted disrespectful and belittled anyone who didn't have the same knowledge that she has after working in this field for 30+ years. Run far, run fast.

She does not help many students and picks her favourites quickly. She will question your integrity and having her as a prof made me drop our of honours due to dealing with her. I started out loving Chaucer, now I hate him. She ruined English for me.

Though she is a very hard grader, she knows what she's talking about and more than happy to help those who are willing to help themselves. I went from hating poetry to actually understanding the meaning of what was written. One of the best profs I've ever had. Would recommend!

This professor made me go from wanting to do honours in English (which the university asked me to do in a letter after my marks in first year) to switching out of English into History Honours. She is mean, inconsiderate, impersonal, and a very hard marker who only wants things written the way SHE likes it or believes it to be. No creativity allowed

My only complaint is that she seems to question the integrity of students, even one-on-one, without much justification (perhaps this becomes a habit after years of instructing); however, I do not think she is mean -- in fact, she is very interested in helping students, and she is very knowledgable. She is tough, but reasonable.

She is not helpful at all. She is honestly the worst prof I have ever had. She does not encourage creativity and is a ridiculously hard marker. I got the impression that she had a grudge on me. I had a meeting with her and she didn't seem to care about my progress. I think she only wants students to do well to help her reputation as a prof. Avoid!

Very peticular, very anal, very mean, very set in her ways. Makes you hate life if you don't think the same way as she does. Shes an overall bit*h. Class is boring and it doesn't help that shes not attractive if you want something to look at iof you're a guy. Miss her class at all times.

avoid her at all costs she's a ****..she'll say she will do anything to help you but she doesn't. she has these stupid rules which she won't change for any reason..doesn't matter how sick you are.copy everything she says and you get a decent mark but DO NOT try to be creative or contradict what she says in class

Disappointing. Her lectures reminded me of highschool. Heard she was a hard marker, but I managed to get an A- by regurgitating all of my class notes on the exams. She really gives off the impression that she's doing it for herself, not the students. Don't think for yourself, just support what she tells you in class and you'll do well.

Exactly the professor many non-university people use as a stereotype as one reason they prefer not to go to school. If I do well, mark me well. If I do poorly, mark me poorly. Better that than having no idea how I've actually performed. If she wants to be a basement dwelling scholar, fine; but as a professor she owes more to her students.

She's bright, helpful, kind, and knows her subject. She is a fair marker and is more than willing to schedule office time to help you. She has a good sense of humor, but don't expect a horse and pony show. I highly recommend her to serious english students.

If you favor non-stop direct lecture - with the exception of the infrequent 'discussion' questions, which must fall in line with her wisdom - then take this class. She thinks the whole class is on board if the same few people are contributed. Unapologetically boring.

Definitely picky about attendance, but a good prof overall... She kept the classes interesting for the most part, although there was a lot of reading. I didn't have an problems with the way she marked, I never got lower than a B on her essays...
