Comment:
Chuck is a good teacher when it comes to teaching the subject matter. When it comes to answering his questions, he's the worst. A student once asked a very dumb question as they weren't understanding the information, he just stood there with a dull face at them, then he answers it acting very annoyed. You'll be too afraid to ever ask again...

Comment:
Prof. Liang should not be teaching, he is extremely critical and harsh on his students and very rude. I don't know if its cultural but being rude and insulting is not the way to teach students. He may be book smart, but poor personality, 1-word email responses and lack of interest in answering valid questions. Oh and he hates Java !

The quality of his teaching material is top notch. If you actually want to be in this field, you'll want to take his class and spend the time and effort to see if this is for you. Like others have said, life is hard, at least this way you'll see if you're cut out for it BEFORE you waste your time.

I had Dr Liang in 2002 when I was a CSC undergrad. I read all the responses and they're broken down into people who appreciate & respect him, and those who bashed him because he was hard. To those who bashed him, life is hard. Get used to it. Dr Liang is a very good professor. Appreciate everything he teaches you - especially if you're in CSC.

Liang is one of the best professors in CSC! If you don't take him, you will be missing out. Be prepared to work hard, pay attention, ask questions and be made fun of. But if you seriously want to learn CS and get a job take him! Only thing is he mocks Java and I've been working in java for 7 years. He is definitely a Microsoft man :)

Here's the thing, Liang is a unique professor. The strictest, and most abrasive professor in CSC, but also the most caring prof. in Hofstra. He cares about every one of his students and he shows it in everything he does. Just don't get on his bad side.

Dr. Liang is probably the hardest Professor in the CS department, but I think he is also the best. He makes you think and understand to a level is uncomfortable for most Hofstra students but is required for effective CS professionals. I have had him 3 times and would gladly take him again.

Liang is a very hard professor to deal with at times. He is the only one here that teaches csc17 and csc123, so there is no avoiding him. He expects you to know everything pre hand and understand the material with out him explaining more then once. Labs are long and HARD. Test are HARD. He is very mean and makes fun of his students. calls us idiots

Dr. Liang can be summed up by his own bitter words: "I realized something depressing; my colleagues get to upgrade the programming languages, and I have to upgrade to programmers." If belittling millennials were part of the curriculum, perhaps the class would have received higher grades. This is a man is not fit to be a teacher. Research it is.

Prof. Liang's classes are not for the feeble minded. He comes off as an narcissistic egotist, but he really does care in his own way.

If you want to learn, take any class you can with him. If you just want an easy A, you should reconsider going to college. He is a great professor and keeps students engaged constantly. Don't expect it to be easy though.

I graduated a long time ago but never left a review for Prof. Liang. Even if you're already well verse in the subject he will leave you with a passion and excitement for computer science that you'll be hard pressed to find from any other professor. I cannot recommend him more; even several years as a professional I still think back to his lessons.

He's no Jim Lang but boy is he Chuck Liang! He's the man with a Computer Science plan! He was the best except for the one time he did advertising for GAP travel and tried to work that into a lesson! He's still The Champ and The Man! Great Teacher!

CSC017 is one of the hardest classes you will (likely) ever take...and Liang is (certainly) one of the most challenging professors you will ever have. However, if you ever felt bad about the loans you are taking out to pay this ridiculous tuition...this is what you won't get at a SUNY.You'll thank yourself later for taking the challenge.OH, show up.

Dude is the bomb. He may be one of the more challenging professors in the Dept, but he is the freaking man. You HAVE to take him at least once, because you will learn SO much as long as you apply yourself. He may be a tad socially awkward, but the guy is a master at comp sci. HE is the chosen one. All hail Chuck Liang, God of Recursion.
