Dr. Hollenbeck is such an underrated professor. He provides a course reader that is very easy to read and digest. His study guides are thorough and force you to understand the material. His tests are based off of the study guides and he grades fairly and generously. Best professor in the department, and possibly in the entire school. He's a genius!

I was dreading taking Dr. Hollenbeck's class, but he was absolutely AMAZING. Every second and word he said was so fascinating. He resurrected my love for the science of nutrition. He teaches you to think critically. If you study hard and understand the material, you'll get an A. Still can't believe there's a teacher this amazing at SJSU!

Professor Hollenbeck is super helpful, humble, and nice. The material he teaches may be hard. However, as long as you try, you will pass all of his classes. His exam questions are exactly from the study guide. So do the study guide and understand it. One of the best professor in this department!

Dr. Hollenbeck is a great person. He is singlehandedly the most intellectual professor within the department. He will teach you to challenge common nutrition dogma. Great class if you like to think critically and have a genuine passion for the science of nutrition.

One of the underrated NUFS professors! The material is hard, yes, & he goes through his powerpoints super fast, you literally can't keep up, and it's always easy to just wanna give up. But if you continue to try, he really is not that bad. I've had him for 106B, 108A, and 109, and by the 3rd class, i got used to him!

Professor Hollenbeck is the most bland instructor you can ever hope to have. Lectures feel ridiculously long, and I feel that it was a waste of my time to show up to most of them. Hollenbeck will send you the power points that he uses in class and a study guide that is actually harder than the tests. Don't buy the textbook as it's not used, ever.

Clear with instructions for the assignments. Many of the assignments are creditno credit which really helps your grade. The papers are straight forward. Do them well & follow his instructions & you'll do fine. Exams are fair. Study wisely and familiarize yourself with the study guides he provides. He is a great professor.

Hollenbeck as a person is great, but is just terrible as a teacher. He lectures as if you are a researcher & know all the information already. Its a shame that he is the only one that teaches this class (and 109), because I would tell everyone to avoid him if they could. His powerpoints don't match with his reader a lot of the times.

Couldn't really understand him. He wasn't clear with his lectures. He read from his power points, which were just passages from his course reader. His study guides for the exams were way harder than the actual exams. He lectures as if students already know the information, like everything is a review. You'll be confused, no doubt.

nice guy, but horrible teaching methods. always showed up to class late and only gave us three assignments the whole semester so it really hurt our grades. Never responds to emails... like never. still don't know what i received in the class. overall, try to avoid this teacher.oh, and do not buy the book. he does not use it at all.

This class was an awful!!! He was late to every single class. Read off the slides and then rambled on for an hour and 15 minutes about who knows what. Failed to show up to administer a test so he "combined it with the final," hurting everyone's grade because there were 3 items in our grade. He failed to update the class on due dates or e-mail back.

This man is a genious. He is so intelligent he basically wrote a book for the class in the form of a course reader because text books are wrong. You will learn a lot about nutrition and more in his classes. Don't miss out on all the knowledge he has to share just because "his tests are hard."

Horrible teacher!. 4 papers, a group presentation and 2 tests. He grades hard and doesn't actually teach. He puts slides up and rambles and speeds through them. I would not recommend him to anyone especially non nutrition majors taking 163 for their SJSU studies area R.

I think he is by far one of the top teachers in this department. He's not a power tripper like some of the other instructors, and he is by far one of the most intelligent. It is a hard class with A LOT of important information.
