I took classes in 1982-1885 with Prof Mayo. What can I say, it is more than 30 years later & I think of him fondly and w/respect. He might remember me. I was the one who showed up on the Monday after class started on Friday. He asked me why I missed a class. I said I was having a baby. He replied, "Well, I guess that is a good enough reason."

I had Clark Mayo more than 20 years ago, and I still remember the class discussions we had. He was extremely influential and my understanding of literature gained from his class carried me forward as I became an English teacher myself. I have taught both high school and middle school English, and my students feel his influence.

Probably the best professor I have ever had. Very knowledgeable on wide range of authors. Discusses authors, works and topics in ways that are relevant to actual life in the real world. Has very high expectations- when you rise to them and are rewarded you are experiencing college as it is meant to be experienced. No whiners need apply.

This is probably the most interesting professor here at CSUSB. He has a knack for asking the right questions to prompt both serious thinking and serious discussion on each piece we read. After the class discussion, you'll find yourself wanting to go back and re-read most of the stories. Don't be frightened by his dry sense of humor. He's harmless.

Took every class I could with Mayo when I was at CSUSB. Since then, I've earned my Masters and am working on my Ph.D. I owe my success in grad. school to him. Without a doubt, the best professor I ever had. For those who whine that he "never writes on the board," he doesn't need to get up and write on the board. This isn't high school, folks.

My Favorite professor in the English Dept. Last of the great Old-School professors. He is very knowlegeable about topic, especially poetry. However, the student must remain engaged and ask questions. He will not give easy answers. Grading is fair. "A," afterall, is reserved for "Excellent." Lesser papers receiver lower grades.

Gives out a 100 definitions only uses 20 on test. Grades inaccurately, good grades to people he likes. Need to speak in every class and agree with him. never gets out of chair ,or writes on board. takes roll every day. 3 absences=F. only values his own opinions. He should not be teaching.

Wasted ten weeks in his class. Got nothing out of the class. Never lectured once. Never got out of his chair. Never put ANYTHING on the board.

I do not recommend this professor to ANYONE who wants to get an A and who wants to really learn. Very little in-depth discussion, "gives" grades that do not represent accurate assessment of course material. Should NOT be teaching because he does

Had Mr. Mayo for many classes long ago. He told of his attempt to walk through a table during an Existentialist "trip" he had. Also turned me on to Hemingway. Have to stay up on reading, but he was a great teacher!
