Comment:

Pretty good professor overall. Lots of humanities knowledge, especially in relation to literature and history. Fun to get into conversations with, and is interested in many topics beyond Japanese literature. One complaint I have is that he is not very clear when it comes to the marking criteria of his assignments. Other than that, he's worthwhile.

Big mistake on my part not dropping this class after getting four consecutive terrible lectures. He does not specify what he wants, is a terrible lecturer, and has some serious issues with discussing - anything - in class and sticking to the point. Be warned: STAY AWAY!

Worst lecturer I’ve had in 6 years @ uvic… lectures were unintelligible, and he is not very pleasant in class, just a miserable person to be around. If you are looking to take this class for Theatre History credit, you are much better off taking theatre department classes.

Although there are several "ums" and "ahs" per lecture, get over it! Dr Poulton is a wealth of knowledge, is genuinely helpful, and is passionate about Japanese culture and history. What better combination is there? And, if you actually follow his instructions, you get a great mark. Go figure.

Poultry ah...ah...ah..ya. Beware of this prof. He gave 5 people zero for plagerism, i believe 3 were aquited. He is mean, spiteful and vicious. If you have to take a course with him, keep low, only talk when spoken to and make conservative comments.
