Comment:

Dr. Bennett is an expert in surveillance, privacy and digital studies. His passion for the material shines through consistently. I would recommend Dr. Bennett for any class, especially for anything to do with the internet or digital studies! He is very interesting and really gets you to think. Loved the class!

I really don't understand the comments about Dr. Bennett being pretenious. He is an awesome professor that gives greatfeedback, excellent and in-depth lectures, and has a great sense of humour. He made American Public Policy interesting for me, and that's what I found the most important.

I really enjoyed this class. It was one of my favourite this semester. Bennet is a bit pretentious, but nevertheless he is a good instructor. It made for a good class! Expectations were clear, marking was fair. Would definitely recommend!

Comment:

Dr. Bennett gives the best lectures for poli classes that Ive had thus far at UVIC. However, his lack of clarity regarding whats expected on midterms and finals makes me advise you to find another poli course. Average for our class was around 69% the lowest I've seen for a poli class EVER! Smart man, great speaker, but not worth the GPA hit.

Very tough prof (and can be quite arrogant as well). He has good lectures, but marks hard on the midterm and final. As well you will get a bad marks on your paper if you deviate from any advice he gives.

had him for 313A and B, he is in my top 3 profs I have ever had at UVic. His knowledge of American Politics past and present is substantial. He is challenging as a grader but it was worth it in my opinion.

Colin knows everything about the topics covered in the syllabus. He refers to the textbook, he refers to news articles and interesting current debates. The only way to get a high grade is to read the assigned materials again and again, and reflect upon his powerpoint.

Dr. Bennett is the best professor at UVic. He embodies what a professor is suppose to be: professional, intelligent and inspiring. Lectures are very interesting. Dr. Bennett is very helpful, and easy to interact with. He is not a professor for those who wish to 'coast' through their degree, but rather for those students who enjoy a challenge.

He's a really good prof! Great at explaining concepts and keeping lectures to what is important. The textbook can be a bit dry but his other readings are more important anyways. Don't show up late and be prepared because he will ask for your opinion. He will always respond to your emails in a timely manner and makes time for you outside of class

The textbook is dry and there are lots of concepts, tables and descriptions in each chapter. If you want a good grade, then read them patiently while taking notes and highlights. I did not think it is a useful textbook until now when I am watching a documentary called the rise of superpowers. Categorizing patterns and phenomena is dry but useful

Dr. Bennett is a fantastic lecturer, who explains concepts well, and engages with the class. He has a sense of humour, aided by his British accent. His class expectations are clear and he provides helpful outlines for exams. He is honestly the best professor at UVic. Highly recommend if you are interested in US politics. Ask him about privacy :)

best prof at UVic. super knowledgeable, extremely helpful. riveting lectures, explained terms well, good ppts. great use of Moodle, he's a very organized person and his stuff is easy to find. fair marker, great outlines for papers, midterms, finals. great sense of humour, highly recommend if you are interested in the Supreme Court/Constitution!

uses the textbook alot in 210. i almost never attended the class but read the textbook whenever i missed and was able to keep up and answer all the questions on the exam. When i did attend, he had crystal clear lecture slides, was funny, and if it wasn't such an early class i woulda been there more. great teacher.

Interesting class. His slides are great, he explains concepts very well, and he has staggered deadlines and opportunity to resubmit for papers. Great professor! Definitely knows American politics very very well. Material can be dry at times but I love the way he talks and his sarcastic humor. He can be a hard marker so make sure you read the Bennett spell check :) Take a class with him if you can!
