Professor does not want you to think critically at all. He wants you to regurgitate exactly what he says. He is completely repetitive in his lecture and he only assigns 3 essays the entire semester with no clear grading criteria. 80% of the class was talking about a single essay and a film. His feedback is not helpful, just critical.

Honestly I have never even reviewed a professor before no matter how terrible I thought they were. Taking this class is punishing yourself, there is no critical thinking involved you have to use exactly his words, in exactly the way he wants you to or you will not pass. Im going to talk to the head of the English department file a formal complaint.

Worst professor Ive ever had. I never write reviews but everyone should AVOID him. The lectures are super boring, he spent 6 weeks repeating the same thing and then he says not to be repetitive when writing our essays. He gives essays back late and the feedback is very vague. I am an A student and I had to rewrite all my papers 3x to get a B.

Professor Cooper is a very smart professor. He knows his stuff and his accent is not at all difficult to understand. One thing you need to know to pass his class( 3 essays averaged) is that you have to know how to write papers. Pay attention and write good notes and you'll be solid.

I don't typically write reviews, however I felt the need to steer anyone away from this professor for English 205. In his class there are no group discussions, which makes it incredibly hard for many people including myself who tend to work better in an interactive setting. He also tends to repeat himself and make the class setting very awkward.

Omg worst teacher I have ever had. He only gives you a week to complete your essays and doesn't assign page requirements. I thought this was a 205 class not a 47A class. plus he repeats the same information and says write that down. He has us write like 3 essays talking about the same thing. This class was a waste of my time. DON'T TAKE COOPER!!!!

HE IS HORRIBLE! 3 papers total this semester, and he makes you think all is fine b/c you get to rewrite it as much as you can, but there isn't enough time to and he gives the essays late into the semester. It is now a week before NOV break and we just got 1 essay back. He doesn't correct this essay or give it a grade he just says to rewrite it!!!

If you're on this page you are wondering if you should take his class. The answer is NO. Full - Not a professional teacher. He comes to class ranting about irrelevant things like his personal life. There are only 3 essays. No tests or HW, but he grades VERY DIFFICULT. I'm transferring with a 3.70 instead of a 3.78 because of this class. BEWARE.

The class only requires 3 essays, yet unless they are VERY thorough you will not get a good grade. The trick to this class (and any) is just figuring out how Cooper works. Expect to get a horrible grade on your 1st paper. He doesn't make his expectations clear until the whole class fails the first essay. HOWEVER, he lets you rewrite all essays

Your grade is based on the 3 papers throughout the semester, he grades them extremely tough. I got my first C on a paper in a long, long time because I interpreted the film differently than he did. He crossed out entire pages of my papers. He will keep you until the very last minute (or past) of class. His lectures are long and boring.

Definitely one of the most boring and tedious classes I had to take. Lectures were long and I dreaded going. Essays were graded extremely harsh with little to no reasoning besides "you don't know what you're talking about" being written across my paper. If given the chance, avoid this professor at all costs necessary.

He honestly loved his class, tho I was a lazy student. Sometimes his voice was monotone, but content was enoughto keep me interested. I loved the film, Modern Times, that he showed in class and I refer to it often in other classes. He taught about the effects of taylorism and originality in creative works (movies and novels) which he has a point.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Very rude and extremely old fashioned. He doesn't use email or the school site to upload assignments, no technology no nothing. He tells students, including myself that we are terrible writers. He grades very harshly and won't give you feedback. If he does, you'll be lucky

Strunk and White would be appalled. For the first assignment he will give you a thematic statement to use which is odd to say the least. His writing style is unnecessarily wordy and he liberally uses scare quotes. If you regurgitate his ideas in your papers you'll be fine, but if you disagree be ready to fail or at least not fare very well.

I highly recommend AGAINST taking this professor!!! This is a warning. He is an intelligent individual, but he is NOT a good teacher. Extremely dry, repetitive, and gives criticism that is NOT constructive. Writes things like "you don't have a clue" on your paper. Teaches his OPINIONS. I think most of my class is failing, if not everyone. BEWARE!

This guy is by far one of the best critical thinking teachers. I can't see why people give him a bad rating( they are probably ignorant). He's also a fun teacher to work with and most of his topics are really interesting, TOTALLY RECOMMENDED

I just HAVE to say that the racially ignorant remarks about his accent are not only ridiculous (he can be perfectly understood) and bigoted, but probably just a sad excuse for a poor grade in a fairly easy course. I'm an Eng major at USD now and he really is one of the most comprehensible teachers I've ever had. Now you can attack this rating...

Quite possibly the worst teacher at Mesa. He gave us long assignments and he really had no clue about what he was talking about. He tried to use movies to relate the readings to us. But he missed the point on that completely. Avoid at all costs!

Yes, the papers are long. That is the point of critical thinking, to analize. However, he is very clear about what he wants, interesting in his delivery of subject, and a fair grader. You should know how to write a paper before you come to this class, you should have learned how in previous classes. Very good class.
