This is the worst professor I have ever had. It boggles the mind that MSU keeps her on. Like previous posters said, she is scatterbrained, she contradicts herself, she really doesn't have a good handle on the reasoning for her feedback so you cannot understand how to proceed in any permanent way. She's always rushed and running late.

Professor Lawrence was a great professor for RWA and one of the nicest profs! She was very clear on instructions, allows class time for discussion of the issues, and always made herself available if you had any questions. Make sure to take advantage of her office hours; she was very helpful. I would definitely take another class with her again!

I disagree with most of the reviews below, I thought she was very helpful, and very clear on her wants from our work. She was the kindest professor I've had so far. She even brought in food for us during our Friday morning classes. You're very lucky if you get assigned to her Advocacy section.

She's really nice and can be very helpful when you ask for specific things. Kind of crazy. She wants things written her way. She also changes her mind a lot.

Truly sad to see things have not changed. I had her 6 years ago and it seems that her arbitrary and capricious methods have continued. Beyond being unclear about her instruction and her constantly contradicting herself, her grades were largely gender based. I suppose she let's her personal life interfere with her professional one.

Disagree strongly with ppl saying she is unhelpful, she worked with me all year and greatly improved my legal writing ability. Yes, very tough grader, but if you get max grammar and BB scores (in your own control) you will always get at least a B or better. I liked the relaxed classroom, made what would have been a boring class enjoyable.

The last two summed it up well, probably my classmates as our grades just came out. Yes, the grades seem arbitrary or predetermined. The advice is useless because she will take off points when you follow her advice. Will be your most painful with Callen's Civ Pro coming in second.

The most arbitrary grader I have ever had anywhere and the worst professor I had in my first year of law school. She is unclear, an unfair grader, and is completely scatter-brained. Even if you follow her advice on your papers, don't be surprised when she docks you points for doing exactly what she told you to do. Her grading follows no logic.

This is the only class I've ever had that felt like the grade was based on popularity. She's always late to 1 on 1 meetings, and class time is useless. The whole RWA dept. is a mess and she is no exception. Sometimes the suggestions she gave in one meeting, she would give the exact opposite editing advice in the very next meeting.

The way she teaches is a waste of time. Things are very repetitive and I never felt like I was learning or improving. She's more helpful in a one-on-one scenario, but she was always running (at least 30 mins) late for office hours. Regardless, grades felt pre-determined and she had obvious favorites. My grade was pretty good, but class was awful.

Deanne is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She will bend over backwards to help you, and conform to your needs. The only caveat is that she a is a very tough grader, which actually turns out to be a good thing. Great person, and teacher.

Extremely friendly, but she can not control the classroom decorum in the slightest. Personal meetings are helpful; class time is largely a wash. Regardless of other comments I received appropriate grades and I could not imagine she liked me much, thus fair IMO.

Probably the worst professor at MSU-Law. As clear as mud with her descriptions. Arbitrary grader. If she doesn't like you, your grade will suffer. She'll hide behind the lines of "oh, but I grade anonymously" when in reality she went back and lowered your grade.
