I found the class to be rather difficult, but that was just because of personal understanding. His teaching is fine, sometimes difficult to follow. If taking the First-Year Experience Harry Potter class, attend the bonus point events, and expect a group project!

I loved Dr. Fowler! Yes, he is opinionated but he is a philosophy/ethics professor so I'm not sure why it's a surprise to some? He makes an effort to connect with his students and gives good feedback. He gave the options to fix mistakes on papers and turn them back in for a better grade. I very much enjoyed his class!

"Dr. Fowler says (blank) about..." If this doesn't show clear bias in material I don't know what does. I guess you could say I signed up for a class that was suppose to introduce me to the field of Philosophy, but instead was greeted with what I'd like to call, "Dr. Corbin Fowler's Views on the World." A class aimed to manipulate students views.

Comment:
Dr. Fowler, where do I begin... Maybe I could start with his obvious biases on topics like religion and politics. He is an obvious Democrat and Agnostic if not Atheist, which is fine but carrying those views and pushing them on students is very unprofessional. Tests are structured around the book he wrote for the course with (see next review)

Comment:
He shows a very biased opinion in not only his lectures but on the actual exams. It is clear from the start that he is trying to persuade the class to lean away toward Atheists and Agnostics alike. It is almost immature how the amount of time he puts into bashing Republicans and those with conservative views.

Comment:
I took dr. Fowler for my 300 level world religions class. He is the most unprofessional person to teach this subject. He constantly makes fun of religion and forces his opinion on you instead of giving facts and allowing you to make your own decisions. I'm not even religious and he offended me. Terrible at teaching abstract courses.

Comment:
As my first philosophy class I didn't know what to really expect, but he wrote the book himself, classes are either lectures or videos (mostly videos, old recorded videos...) and the quizzes consist of questions about his own opinions and arguments made in class, or in the book he wrote. I still don't understand philosophy.

After taking Dr Fowler I will never ever take him again, and will continue to tell people not to. If you're not into learning about his opinion or Harry Potter, don't take this class because that's all you will hear about the entire semester. Every time you ask for help, he'll say "read your syllabus" HORRIBLE "wannabe philosopher"

He apparently took heed of all these reviews calling him opinionated because he really didn't seem that way to me. Well, he IS opinionated, but it's distilled through humor and vagueness. The main thing I can say is that if you screw up, he will pretty much give you no chance of passing. Insignificant extra credit, very few grading opportunities.

Luckily, this was not one of his courses where the students have to teach each other (although some times he tried to make it that way). He has trouble staying on topic and also has trouble telling you the same thing that the required reading does, which makes tests impossible to figure out.

Highly recommend taking a course with Fowler. He has a super dry sense of humor so class is entertaining an informative. Just show up and do the reading and you will excel. It was a nice surprise to take a course and only spend $7.50 on a text as well! He loves Harry Potter so read the series from a phil perspective. Trust me.

A new professor needs to teach this class. He puts in absolutely no effort and relies on the students to teach each other based on assigned readings. His only input is various videos between sections that are completely irrelevant.

Tests are on topics he didn't address and things that aren't in the book. If you don't go to classes you WILL fail the test. Only grades offered are test grades. He doesn't care about students, he's super lazy. If you can help it, avoid him.

Generally, his attendance policy is that if you don't show up, you'll get what you deserve come test tie. Nothing more, which is glorious. I found that, where most people here for GenEd thought he was opinionated, he was actually presenting opinions from philosopher's views (i.e Plato) or using his unique sense of humour. No need to criticize there

Lazy, Arrogant, and has no interest in the success of his students. He uses his class to silicate his own beliefs through painfully over worded rhetoric. The text for his class was written by him, which make the exam questions his beliefs. So basically if you disagree with him you are wrong. Bad professor.

He is 100% biased with his own opinions and he does not teach critical thinking nor philosophy. He instead wrote his opinions in his own text for the class and lectures his beliefs. You are then expected to know and understand his opinions for the exams
