He is a really chill teacher. If you do your work and follow the criteria you should do fine. There are only a few assignments, in my class, we did 2 discussion posts, 2 short papers, and the final. The only way you should fail this class is if you blow everything off. All the slides are posted online, which is extremely helpful.

Really funny guy who knows his stuff. Be ready to watch lots of documentaries. The tests were unexpectedly difficult but he's a fair grader. Highly recommend.

When I registered for CCJ 330U I thought it would be boring but it was the opposite. The instructor actually made the class interesting with his teaching style. He is funny and real. There are some short essays, but he wants to hear your thoughts and opinions on matters.

Really funny, clearly knowledgeable. This was an accelerated 4-week summer hybrid course. Lots of writing, but he wasn't a tough grader. Basically, if do the assignments you get the 'A'. The textbook was a big help on my quizzes, so, considering the text was an easy, interesting read, I recommend just doing it. He was a fun prof & I learned a lot.

To be honest I liked him at first, he makes a boring lecture class funny. However the two tests are SO hard, and go back on videos and tiny details from documentaries months ago! I got very frustrated because I was doing well but there was not a way to prove that I understood everything.

Mr. S is dry and candid. He is chatty, cracks jokes, and shares stories about his life growing up in South Chicago. He mostly uses docs to explore class concepts in real life settings. Doesn't care much about attendance. Weekly discussions, two tests are online. If you listen during lectures (slides aren't very detailed) you won't need the book.

I've stayed away from taking CCJ courses because I never liked the instructors but this one changed my mind. Passionate about teaching and puts in a lot of time with the lectures (a lot of clips) and is very knowledgeable about popular culture and crime. He truly made me think and want to come to class (though I don't know why students skip).

Dr S is one of the few professors I've taken where you can tell he loves his job. He lectures with passion and is an inspiration. This is a class I will remember most of my life. Just amazing.

Curt is an amazing professor! Tells tons of good jokes and has an obvious love for what he's teaching. Is an easy grader if you do the work he assigns, as in if you do it and do as much of it as he wants you will get 100%. I have slept through a couple of classes and he posts all the lectures on d2l making it easy to make up for anything you miss!

Fun scattered lecture from (posted) slides; 6 online "discussions", put in the word count & never hear about them again; good book, worth the read; 3-4 documentaries/test, view in/out of class - Pay attention & take notes! Mid/Final had study guides, 3hr ea. & online so can use notes, make groups etc. Final felt written by random/drunk grad sdnts.

This class changed my life. It was challenging but Dr. S presented the information in lectures in a clear manner that made you think (if you weren't just looking at your laptop mindlessly). It changed my outlook on life and he is easy accessible outside of class. Also he made terrorism funny at times which I thought would be impossible to do.

He is such a funny instructor and I actually learn things in this class unlike other classes where the instructors don't care about teaching you, only about making sure they teach you the material they have to teach you. Easy A. Class is not mandatory, but it is interesting to hear his lectures and I have learned so much. Great instructor!

Dr. S makes you think. No, he forces you to think. We live in a society where people just don't want to be challenged and he did that to me. Students may not like their beliefs to be challenged but Dr. S does it without forcing an agenda upon you and encourages you to dig deeper into so many important topics. Best teacher ever.

if you want an easy class that requires no thought or effort, than this class will satisfy you. curt is a cool guy with a good sense of humor who makes it really for easy for everyone to pass. Just keep in mind, he's a regressive leftist to the extreme, so take everything he says with a grain of salt. You will be lied to and misled.

Curt is an enthusiastic and funny professor. He tried to make the class more interesting by telling stories and jokes, which helped (since a theories class can be kind of dry). Grade is based on a midterm, final, and several short response papers (very easy as long as you watch the documentaries). Read the book because test questions come from it.

This was an eye opening course. We read a book on Nazi's Germany and that blew my mind. Dr. S is passionate about teaching and I just wish more students were paying attention or coming to class because they missed an amazing class with a professor that teaches with humor and tries to make us think instead of just memorize.

I'm not sure if the previous student who reviewed this course actually came to class. 300 pages reading a week? Maybe they were in a different class. There was a book we had to read throughout the term, but not 300 pages a week. The class was amazing. Lectures were interesting and the teacher has a great passion. Come to class and enjoy.
