I think that Cynthia tries really hard but I really did not enjoy her class. She is very disorganized and I found that she changed her expectations whenever I saw her. She is very caring; however, course content is boring and hard to get through. I respect that Indigenous issues are important but I would have liked to cover more than just that.

You'll read on here that some people do not like Cynthia. I had an amazing time in her class and will take courses with her again. She is fair and offers lot of opportunities for bonus work. Huge focus on Indigenous issues though as a heads up. Very caring and will make time for you. She is the reason that I am now a Politics major. Highly suggest!

Super super passionate, but very hard to follow the lectures. Clearly very knowledgeble. Class structure is very laid back. Not a tough marker, but is not very clear about what we are meant to be learning/showing in our work.

She changes the entire premise of a class to make it all about her research - so you literally don't learn anything that you are supposed to or need to for the course to be useful in upper level courses.

This class was a complete waste of my time. Her lectures had nothing to do with the class. I would have skipped every single class if participation in the "group discussions" wasn't worth 15%. All she does is talk about herself. She assigns 3 chapters to read every week and each chapter is 100 pages. Her quizzes are all MC on really dumb facts.

Dr. Cynthia Alexander is a wonderful, charming person and clearly knows her stuff about the world. However, her class is boring. The text book is REALLY dry and long and we have to read 100's of pages/week. We also have weekly seminars so she can see if you're reading the book or not. Her lectures are kind of irrelevant. All in all, boring. Avoid!!

Literally would not take her course again if you paid me. Prepare to have the plight of aboriginal peoples thrown in your face again and again. Despite being an intro to public policy class I still have yet to learn a thing. Run from this woman like she has the plague.

Cynthia clearly knows her stuff and is very passionate about what she teaches. However, she speaks at a pace that is nearly impossible to follow & jumps from different ideas so fast that it is hard to keep up. Poor organization, vague instructions, hard to get a word in, not a great listener. Wonderful, friendly, but honestly not a great prof.

I did not learn anything from this class, it was a waste of time and money. She made the whole class buy the wrong textbook, she rushes through her messy and unclear power points, not even the TA's understood the assignments, and she has no clue how to use technology. Avoid at all costs.

Content of class is not difficult, but Alexander makes simple tasks obscenely time consuming--readings and assignments require a lot of effort but yield little improvement in knowledge or skills. Syllabus and grading is unclear and prone to changes, and Alexander sends multiple exhausting emails per day with modified instructions.

Great person, amazing to go and talk to about the course. Interested in student-prof interaction which is great. Course is very hard to follow and id leave class not really feeling like i learned anything. She gives so many research things to look up that are useless. If you do your work and go see her you'll get a good grade.

Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had in my 5 years of post-secondary education. A self-professed know-it-all that does not let others speak or consider the opinions of others. Clearly she wants to be an activist and is not cut out to be a professor. I would advise NEVER taking a class with her unless you are a brown-noser.

She is more of an activist than an academic. She is very passionet about what she teaches, and loves her job, but if you take her for intro Poli Sci she will not teach you intro politics. I had her for first year poli sci, and we never actually started talking about politics until she got sick and was replaced by Ian Stewart.

Cynthia is definitely passionate, but it is very hard to follow her classes.I found myself leaving class having no idea what was taught. She rushes through her powerpoints and they weren't clearly laid out. She always said "let's delve deeper" and we were always criticized if we were not current on what was happening in the world.
