Most of my electives were history courses taught by Dr Barrett in the late 90s. He does have a sense of humour (showing slideshows of his trip to Japan) & spaces out tests/papers/exams. He helped me learn the history of my ancestors & I e-mailed to him when I first visited China last year saying "xie xie" (thanks in Mandarin) & he replied back!

He has been one of my favourite profs during my university career (also had him for Chinese history). His voice is so relaxing and he is a phenomenal lecturer - you never feel like you're being left behind. Very approachable and friendly, as well as a fair marker. He is the reason I found the material so exciting. Great slideshows too.

I honestly cannot fault the man on anything. His slow enuciation may not be for all, but will ensure that no one misses any key points. Just remember, his grading system is not McMaster's, and you may be pleasantly surprised when your final grade is far from what you expected.

Took him for Chinese History. A phenomenal prof who worked with me on my assignments and helped me get the best mark possible. I loved his lectures - such a fascinating, friendly guy.

Very nice, clear, too the point Proff. Really bridges the gap from western to Asian history nicely. Democratic with classroom concerns. Lastly, very fair, honest and excited about the material, his personal spin and historical photos add a nice touch
