I know a lot of people like Doty. I don't particularly care for his lectures, though. He uses this old school projector that's hard to read and since he doesn't have to write everything out because of that, he tends to go too fast for you to write everything down. I also struggled in the class, though.

Comment:

He is funny and smart. To get an A in the class all you have to do is the suggested homework problems. His tests are all questions from the suggested homework problems. DO THE SUGGESTED HOMEWORK PROBLEMS PLEASE. Also, do the suggested homework problems. I did not and got a B so do the freaking suggested homework problems.

He was a little confusing at the beginning but you get used to his teaching style. Everyone does. He is funny and the tests literally are the exact same as the 'suggested problems' he gives at the beginning of the year. Get tests from previous semesters. They help. Your grade on the final also is what you get in the class.

Pretty funny little guy. His jokes tend to get old (because we are in Calculus II, because P.E.'s can't do this, etc.). Does a good job explaining things. Definitely take over Hamill.

Funniest Calc teacher you will ever get. He teaching style takes a little getting used to, but he presents the material very clearly. Fridays are his days when he tells stories about "big bad calculus monsters" and shady mathematicians dealing equations in alleys. Tests can sometimes be difficult, but he gives you lots of partial credit.

Doty, you are seriously the best. And you are freaking out of your mind with your using trashcans to explain vector spaces. You are such a typical mathematician. I became a math major because of you. Should I thank you or hate you because of that? The end.

I thought that his manner of teaching was very dry until we got to the fun part of the course (after all, how interesting can you make DeMorgan's Laws?). The mischievous grin he gets when describing the cardinalities of infinite sets is priceless.

I never thought I could love linear algebra so much!!! This man is hillarious.. he teaches the lecture by essentially having a conversation with himself, something like "so Dr. Doty, I remember in Diff Eq homogeneous equations" "OK No... that's not DIff EQ that's LINEAR ALGEBRA!!!" A+

Dr. Doty's dry, mechanical delivery of ridiculous phrases and sentiments makes his class amusing a couple of times a period. The rest, though, is dry, mechanical Calculus. He does a good job of explaining the material, but when he's talking about normal things, he is rather boring. In all, a solid calculus experience.

An then we take out the Samauri Sword of Calculus and chop the graph into tiny pieces...if you can beg, buy, borrow, steal, or otherwise contrive a way to get a definite integral...it's miller time. This class actually makes math lectures fun to listen too! So awesome.
