He may seem nice, but not until it comes to the marking. Once I took his class, I thought his classes were very interesting, but not until I got nasty marks. I put so much effort into the assignments and tests and still got negative marks. I got so mad when I see the nasty markings. Don't take him

Loved, loved, LOVED his lectures! Truly inspiring and such a amazing speaker. He is a tough marker but his feedback is great. His readings ALWAYS match his lectures and as long as you keep up with the readings, there is no way you can fail. I am looking into taking another of his classes next year. This was an elective but it was my favourite class

Dan is a very good lecturer, only downside to this class was the parasitic students looking for a free ride. Articles and essays we had to write were very enjoyable. Exams depend on your ability to cram/write/and take notes. I would recommend this prof 100%.

Tough, professional, and somewhat aloof, but also an efficient lecturer and nice tutorial leader. Not enthralled to be teaching survey course, but delivers quality instruction. Do not underestimate tutorial article readings - you WILL be tested on those, sometimes minutely & specifically. Participation mandatory in tutorial so have notes prepared.

His lectures were clear and concise. He gave you all the information you needed to know without going on about anything unnecessary. While some aspects of Canadian history is boring, the readings assigned were all interesting. I took it in the summer and did not find it overly fast paced or unmanageable.

Took it over the summer and it was brutal. Like all summer courses it was fast paced and the prof was very monotone and doesn't help the students if they need assistance with essays or have other questions. I wouldn't recommend taking a class with him

Comment:
The only thing I can say about this professor is that his marking style is very strict, especially on exams. For those who love to express creativity and insight analysis from a completely different viewpoint to that of the prof's lectures, avoid taking classes with him as the "lecturer." He has different T.A.'s for every class he teaches. Beware!

Comment:
Severely disappointed in this instructor. Rigid & generally difficult to communicate with, both in class and in meetings. In terms of grading, the marking severely restricts style and creative expression, and instead "rewards" slavish adherence to a bizarre set of criteria. Avoid if at all possible - passionate & thoughtful students need not apply.

He knows what he's talking about and lectures are straight forward but CAN be boring. I think he's a fair marker, i've had worse and his exams are easy.

Comment:
Professor Azoulay is an intelligent and competent prof. However, he is a very strict and unnecessarily harsh marker on tests and exams. He is largely unhelpful if you ask him for help on assignments and also projects an image of arrogance. He should try to relate to his students more and show more concern for students' success.

Comment:
On assignments, he's not a terribly difficult marker. Though, He is quite arrogant and humorless. His seminars are a lesson in regurgitation. He fails to venture outside of the course readings. If you are shy, do not take his seminars! Even with good grades and perfect attendance, he'll fail you for participation without even flinching.

Comment:
Without a doubt this prof. was as tough as nails and not the nicest guy in the world. But, if you ask for info for your paper he will help you in the that deparment. You have to work extra hard to get a decent mark; he marks tough. Be prepared to read every piece of material he gives and also come to every lecture otherwise you will not do well.
