I love all of my communication classes and tend to do well in all of them except this one. I was not fond of how he ran the class. He would assign hw and expect us to complete it and when people didn't do the hw he would make an exception for them for full credit, and not reward those who were responsible enough to do the hw with extra credit.

Dr Brown is s a great guy, but his class is tough. It takes effort to get a good grade. There's a ton of reading and the textbook is hard to understand. You really have to study hard to get a good grade on his exams, and he does group quizzes, which can really wreck your grade if your group doesn't care or read the textbook. Plus it's an 8 am so...

On paper, Dr. Brown knows what he is doing. In reality, a lot of class time just feels like a waste. Lectures are slowed by rambling not pertaining to class material. I have had him for multiple classes. In Theories of Communication, I learned a lot. In other classes, I barely learned anything. He is very caring and wants you to succeed.

I would not recommend having him as a professor. He spends at least 2/3 of class rambling and talking about person stories that do not pertain to the lesson. He has made racist and prejudice comments towards other religions. He also enjoys making fun of students who do not preform well in his class. I do not want to have him again.

I have taken Dr. Brown for Comm 135, Comm 207, and Comm 235. While he does have a tendency to get distracted while lecturing, he is very willing to help students if you ask for it. He is wise to tricks, and will not do work for you, but genuinely cares about how a student is doing. Once you get to know him, you're in. I would definitely take again.

All of his quizzes are reading quizzes and they're group quizzes. You definitely need to read to pass the quizzes. His lectures are long and he is pretty scatter-brained. It's very easy to zone out and not pay attention in his class. He doesn't really teach that much but then his tests are difficult and you need to study for them.

STAY AWAY. This class will give you nothing but a headache at 8 AM. The textbook is horrible, the teacher is scatter-brained and lazy. He gives group quizzes... And if you get stuck with a bad/a average group, you'll get a C or lower in the class. Stay away, switch majors, drop out of school--- stay away from this class.

It's taken me 4+ classes with Brown to finally understand him. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his fields of interest - as a student try and mirror his interests in your assignments. He is extremely helpful if you have a specific question, but if you go to his office expecting him to do your work for you you're out of luck & you're just lazy.

Very entertaining and funny. Keeps class in a good mood. Does not do much teaching...all quizzes are reading quizzes. Class requires a moderate amount of work, but certainly not overbearing. If just putting in a little work, an A is definitely manageable. Gets off task very often, disregards the time, and uses many personal examples.

Comment:
Dr. Brown is a little disorganized, and he does go off on tangents during his lectures. But he really cares about students and tries to get us to engage, and he is very easy to talk with, whether its responding to questions in class or meeting with him individually. This professor is incredible, and worth taking.

I took Dr. Brown for COMM 104, 207, 212, and 427. He is very good one-on-one, but is not organized or focused in front of the class. Advice: Spend a lot of time on papers, take notes on the book (because his lectures are sporadic), and come in with an attitude to enjoy his antics and the subject at hand or he will drive you crazy.

Never comes to class on time, and when he finally gets there, spends at least ten minutes recapping his weekend to us. Then moves on to talking about his dog or his wife. never has a real lecture, but expects you to do the work without any notes, because theres never anything intelligent out of his mouth to write down. horrible prof.

terrible. you actually have to teach yourself because he is so bad at it. don't worry about trying to pay attention or take notes because all he does is talk about the weather or his wife. i've never had a professor this bad.
