Dr. Miller knows what he's talking about. Don't be afraid to ask for help in or out of class--he knows what you're reading is difficult. His essay prompts are challenging, but each essay you submit is sent back with tons of comments to help you improve. He explains things well in class and will clarify if asked. Great professor, genuinely cares.

Dana Miller is God. I'd never taken a philosophy class before and it won't be my major. However, this class will always be remembered as the pinnacle of my freshman year. The hardest class I've ever taken, but well worth it.

Comment:
Professor Miller's class is not easy. That being said, he is extremely intelligent and understands that this is your first philosophy class. Get ready to work really hard, but in this class hard work is well-rewarded. There were three papers, a mid-term, and a final. Reading is MUST in the class, but if you do it you will do well. Best of luck.

One word: No. Dana Miller is quite dogmatic, arrogant, and pedantic. Would not recommend. My grade dropped from an A to a B based on one exam.

Super sassy but honestly a really great teacher. The subject matter itself was honestly really difficult but he really knows what he's talking about. Also, Im pretty sure that as much as he tries to hide it he actually is a genuinely really nice person. His class was a bonding experience.

Not helpful in office hours, boring lecturer, and very inflexible. Would not recommend unless seriously interested in his area of expertise, and you have no other options.

Very hard grader. Is not enthusiastic about teaching this class at all. SUCH a terrible experience. No clear explanations on what he expects us to write in our papers. I dreaded going to this class.

I notice this professor has a lot of good ratings from '09 and earlier, but something has clearly changed. He is unenthusiastic and belittles students. Participation is a big part of your grade, but if you give a "wrong" answer he'll call you out and make you feel like an idiot. No class discussion, only lecture and occasional Q&A.

Doesn't remember individual students' names. Often unclear about his expectations. Paper grades can be harsh, even if you consistently attend class, do all required readings, and participate.

Challenging, but interesting. Your brain will hurt after class sometimes, but you come away feeling like you learned something. Miller could be clearer when explaining things, but if you reread over the material after discussing it you'll understand it much more than when you read it the first time. Ask questions in class, or else it'll be boring.

Most amazing prof ever!!! The class is challenging but I walked away with a newfound love of ancient philosophy. Miller is so funny (in a sarcastic sort of way) and even though he's hard, everyone loves him! I cannot recommend this professor highly enough. :)

Professor Miller is the best professor I've had so far. I started the class with no prior philosophy experience, but by the end I felt like I had learned so much. He's really funny and really intelligent. If you do the readings and participate in class, you'll be fine.

LOVED THIS CLASS!!! You do have to do the readings for every class, but everything is on sparknotes if you take notes it is easy to keep along. Prof. is very funny in a sarcastic way, it makes the class interesting. As long as you stick to whats in the book, papers are fairly easy. reccomend to take him!

Very nice guy, brilliant, and very funny. I struggled through the entire class and he was always willing to help. It is very difficult, but if it is core, you can't go wrong with him. Very funny and sarcastic. If you don't stay awake in class, he will call you out on it.
