This professor made me hate Chaucer. I spent more time studying for this class than I did any other class and still couldn't write exactly what he wanted for our tests. I learned so much but felt punished with his terrible grading and criticism. I can't understand this professor. I go A's in all of my other classes that were not with him.

Professor Ransom class: History of the English language can seem intimidating at first. However, it is a very interesting class and professor Ransom explains very well and is always available when students have questions. I loved going to this class.

It's a literature class, so there is reading. Participation in class won't make him grade more easily, but it's a great chance to get his opinion on any ideas you have. He gives great feedback and is available if you need help. You can get an A if you put in the effort. His class will blow your mind if you invest yourself in it. Pop quizzes though.

He's a nice man, but we never had discussions. It was always just him talking about these books we were supposed to read. And the amount of reading he assigned was impossible, because the pieces he assigns are all old english. He's an easy grader, but we don't have a lot of grades. It's just a painfully boring class

History of the English Language- welcome to HEL, he said on the first day. But Dan Ransom is a phenomenal teacher- exquisite to listen to. I learned to recite Beowulf and Chaucer and Shakespeare from this man. Passionate about the language, and he doesn't mess around. Professional, yes. If you can't keep up, best drop the class.

If you liked the subject, might still like it; possibly could kill interest-other choices: do some research! No chance to find "way in"/think for yourself, no true discussion, just answers, repeat experts. Papers must be perfect. Not for those w/outside stuff to do; doesn't care if student fails.

I hate this class with a passion. It's plot-repeating, you learn nothing about what you read. Not a good Lit. Class at all. Plus, this man has habits that will drive you insane. He said um or uh 75 times in the first 10 minutes of class. I can't stand him or his class. Don't take it! Save yourself a headache! Take a class you can stay awake through

Dr. Ransom killed my enthusiasm for the class. His method of lecturing echoes that of a high school teacher, definitely not what I expected from a professor. Dull! I swung an A without much effort... trying to stay awake during class was much harder than writing to please his tastes.

He is a nice guy, very knowledgable, but this is a HARD CLASS. If you are taking anything else that requires your attention, this class will kill your GPA. NOT FOR SLACKERS, or anyone without a massive understanding of phonetics. Hard, hard, hard, take something else and be happy!

Professor Ransom is a bada**. I loved this class. It's a lot of work, but don't let people scare you out of it, because it's totally worth it.

One of hardest classes in dept. You have to work your rear off and earn an A. He seems shy but is nice if you go to his office and will help you. NOT A SLACKER CLASS. He will teach you incredible amounts if you work for it.
