He's a really nice prof, ready to explain everything and accomodate you outside of class. He's got a problem of being extrememly boring, trying to appeal to his young audience. His tests are sometimes sloppy, with some ridiculous questions, but otherwise fair. Just make sure to read the question, and they're not really tricky. No need 2 go 2 class

Dan is just about the nicest guy ever! The ccontent of this class isnt good though. Too bad its required. He is super willing to help you outside of class, which is good because sometimes things dont get fully explained in class. But hes just so nice, its hard to be critical of him :)

horrible class. Perlman is a super nice person, but teaching is not his strong point. The assignments are especially difficult because there is absolutely nooooo explanation. I would not recommend him at all

Will NOT take a class with him again. EXTREMELY disorganized. Poor notes, most for exam taken from text anyway. Inconsistent: sometimes detailed assignments, sometimes no information at all. HARD HARD marker, which makes it even more annoying that he doesn't set clear guidelines. Expectations are not clear and neither is he. Nice guys finnish last.

I wanted to like this prof. He was very interested in what he was talking about and his lectures weren't too bad. His tests were impossible though. They were tricky and didn't cover the class material well. I spent more time studying for his class than any other and still managed to get a grade two letters below my average!

UNeasy! He's got a really kind heart, but his tests are ridiculous. He even lets us choose which test questions we want omitted since he knows he's hard. Too much workload. Don't ever need to go to class. Just memorize notes and textbook. Too bad, this could have been a good class.

A rather hopeless lecturer. Really. Forget that he's a nice guy, the man can't teach. He spend 2.5 weeks lecture on "what is science." His powerpoint is next to useless and REALLY disorganized so you can't just take it off WebCT and the textbook was written for a 5 year old. Just don't take his class. Please. We all just sot there and do homework.

It's hard to appreciate his teaching style until one learns to appreciate what an amazingly nice person he is. He forces his students to learn and understand the material. If you're prepared to learn, then you'll get your money's worth.

booooooo. such a boring class on such an interesting topic - am very dissapointed. However a lot lies on the T.A.'s marking: silly, nit-picky marking for lame, boring and pointless mini-assignments. good class to skip - don't bother with discussion groups. not as easy as i would have hoped!

Am I the only one who thinks he isn't that great?? I think the only thing that bothers me the most is the fact that he says "ehm" every 5 seconds. It gets really iritating! He is really nice though and responds to e-mails really really fast.

A very sweet man, very approachable and nice, he is very smart and knows what he is talking about. I would definatly take another class with him. Exams are MC and there are 2 papers which are 4 pages. Final was very fair. Good GPA booster if you read the text.

oh my goodness, so boring all you say in class is "i want to shoot myself". for fun, a couple of us counted how many times he said 'uh' and we counted at least 150 'uh' during a 50min lecture. don't take a class taught by him. ever.

honestly, his lectures are a bit boring, however the material is still interesting. you really only have to read the text to do relatively well. papers are not marked too hard... responds super fast to emails too- 30min once!
