she is not a nice person in general. She always smiles, but she is blunt and kind of rude. She hurts people's feelings without considering them. She is really condescending too. A good teacher, but I would rather not have a teacher like her because she is a : CONSIDER YOURSELFER.

She was one of the moodiest people ive ever met. She would constantly comment that she herself knew how to do thee problems and tests. . . every single class. She embarrasses people in class and makes you feel stupid if you don't know an answer. Her moodiness made asking questions hard.

Ms. Giffen presents material clearly during class, the problem is that the problems on the tests and quizzes are much, much harder. She is also very condescending and unapproachable. Sometimes picks on people who asks questions. I didn't find her office hours helpful at all. I guess the fact that she speaks english is a plus...

The material in homework and lectures is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. Quizzes and tests are ridiculously hard and many levels above what we learn in class and in the textbook. She's nice (maybe she got nicer when she got married?) but this class is AWFUL. definitely worst of my college experience so far.

i can see why everyone else is so hateful, she is pretty negative in class. however, if you ask her to clarify something in class or in office hours, SHE WILL help you. class is very hard, but it's the material not necessarily her (all MATH 132 tests are the SAME). i got a 50 on the first exam and worked my tail off and managed a B. hard but doable

For our class she was mostly condescending and ill-tempered, along with being a weak teacher. I've heard though that she sometimes has mood swings and can be nice to a single class for whatever reason.

I am usually impartial when it comes to rating teachers, but Prof. Giffen really does stick out. Like others have said, her tests are much more difficult then what she covers in class. Moreover, she gives close to 0 partial credit when it comes time for tests. Quizes and hw are terrible and hard.She is good at explaining the example probs, however.

Terrible lecturer. If you go to her office hours and express even the slightest hint of criticism, she immediately suggests you may have "learning needs." Lectures are somewhat unclear as she makes mistakes and does not fully correct them. Test questions are nothing like the homework problems. Does not post solutions to tests, and is a hard grader.

She seems to be nicer in class now than what people have reported in the past. However, homework questions are orders of magnitude harder than what we go over in class, and she tends to not give out extra credit very often.

This is probably the worst class I've ever taken. Not only does she make mistakes during lecture, all the time... She is not an interesting lecturer and extremely slow and getting back tests, hw, etc. Also, the hw she assigns is never anything like the test questions.

Defidently not one of the better professors I've had. Like other said, her lectures come straight from the book (you dont have to read). The thing that really struck me about her was her terrible attitude. My class average on an exam was bad. Instead of helping us learn the material again, she spent an entire class complaining that we didnt study.

This class is hard enough with a prof who gives a s****. This prof does not. Don't expect any help from her. She will read the book to you and then test you on things she has never explained. On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 the worst and 10 the best, she gets a -300. If you can avoid this professor, do so.

I agree pretty much with what the others have said about her being condescending and all her lectures directly coming from the book...the only good thing about her is that she prepares you for how hard the exams are going to be because she is the one that writes the MATH 132 exams. If you show her that you do your homework, however, and participate in class, she can be nice.
