Comment:
Yeah, this was very tough material and I didn't get much time as I wished to invest into this elective. However, it kind of represents the challenges of how one would react in an environment to let the impossible become possible. If you do talk to him, he's human too. Go into this course knowing you get an 80 and find the beauty in the uncertainty

Comment:
This was my lowest mark in MAcc. However, to be fair, this course did require the least amount of my efforts. I would recommend this course if you want a low maintenance elective that guarantees you at least an 80, and allows you to focus on other more challenging courses such as 610.

Comment:
This was my lowest grade in MAcc. The lack of feedback is a serious flaw in this course since you do not learn . He refuses to release the final case mark and this was my lowest grade in the program. I fail to see how this course relates to the "Master of Accounting" criteria since it has nothing to do with the profession nor was it helpful.

I heard from my friends who are taking afm231 that he's actually not that bad. But taking ACC623 with him myself, I feel like he doesn't spend much effort. He doesn't take much effort into our classes (our ACC623 ppt is the same as 231), he cancelled 2 lecturers (out of 10), and our assignments haven't been marked for an entire month.

Comment:
The prof mostly give students 80% max as he mentioned in class, to "control the grade distribution, only a few students will get above 80%". As a student with an objective mind, I think this is not rewarding to those students that work hard because this is called a forced distribution system.

I enjoyed this term with Darren and I learned lots from this course from attending lectures and asking questions. In my neutral opinion I believe he taught me many concepts and sparked my interest in law. Grading is fair, I have a fair mix of 90s-100s, with a few 80s.

Comment:
The TAs in this course are not even Waterloo students. This is actually so unfair. They provide no feedback despite everyone in class complaining that we have no idea how we lost marks. You will not improve in anyway in your knowledge and writing. This course should not exist in the Master's level program.

lol I finished the entire course in 1 month. This is a honestly a waste of tuition. But it's perfect for me because I am waste. I exert minimal effort and easily gets 80% on all my submissions. I'd say this course is kinda unfair for those who actually work hard, but for me it's perfect! Bless Charters.

In my neutral opinion, I dislike the fact that we are provided no feedback in terms of our submissions in this course. I understand that he said there are resource constraint in terms of TAs. But if I did not get a 100%, I'd like to no why, and how could I potentially improve to go above and beyond. I feel like the TAs didn't even read my work.

Comment:
Really annoyed at this point, in the middle of the course, all I've been getting is 80%, no matter how well you write and how much time you put in. I actually got a law student look over and edit my submissions before and she said even my submission deserves a 100% in her department. The TAs are not qualified to grade us, neither is the prof.

lectures, readings, & paper submissions are not value added. The professor does not do a good job in making the course useful to students. I do not recommend taking this course cuz u will not learn anything and it will negatively affect your average.

Unclear grading scheme, 4/5 is the "100%" despite 4-5 hours of work put in. Professor does not make any efforts to see students in office hours. Claims "he is very busy with other courses" even though he is only teaching AFM231. Poor attitude towards students and often very rude in communications

Okay, I regret taking this course. I took it because I thought it was chill, but you spend a lot of effort and the max you're going to get is 80% (according to his policies). You don't need to do any readings. The entire course is waste and I'm not learning anything. I should have taken something else. He's also not helpful and very rude.

A great professor who really knows his stuff in law. His teaching style reflects his training as he is very detailed and clear with what he teaches. He sometimes can talk off on a tangent which may make some classes very long. Easy participation marks for showing up and listening in class. Try to use real life case examples to supporttopic.

He's a former lawyer and knows his stuff. The course is well laid out and you cover a fair bit of material that is actually somewhat useful. He speaks clearly and keeps students informed of deadlines and such. Not thrilling to listen to (material is a bit dry though) but just a decent prof. Midterms and finals were fair, and group assignments easy.
