Comment:
Dr. Cavicchi is probably the most difficult teacher at GCC. He teaches at a grad school level, moves fast, gives long homeworks, and grades hard. However, his teaching is excellent, you learn a lot faster. If you put in the time on the homework, pay attention, ask him when you don't understand, and study hard, you'll excel.

Comment:
Cavicchi won't help you during office hours. He has incomprehensible notes and won't even look at the class while lecturing. I'm in grad school now, and I have to retake the classes I took with him (despite good grades) because he didn't cover necessary material. The stuff he covers is useless so don't work too hard. You'll have to retake it anyway

Comment:
Teaches a high-level MATH (hardly focuses on communications!) course and assumes you already know core concepts by heart. Will not answer questions in office hours, insists you need to do more work on your own. Pretends to take suggestions on test difficulty but shoots down anybody who argues against his methods. Go CE and take Computer I and II.

Comment:
Cavicchi is the worst prof at GCC. He made fun of me in front of the whole class when I asked for clarification. His lectures are incomprehensible and if you can't ask questions in class or during office hours (when I went he wouldn't look at me or respond), the class is worhtless. He told us we were all in the wrong major a week before graduation.

Why don't you whiners actually post something helpful? You can't avoid Cavicchi. Focus on ungraded homework, b/c it's the basis for test questions. Don't worry about test/hw grades, b/c your course grade will always be better than you thought. Great prep for grad school. Just learn to laugh at ridiculous expectations rather than be a sour puss.

Talk about taking a class that I was looking forward to and turning it into something I dreaded! Insanely difficult homework, painfully hard to follow notes, incredibly boring prof... he knows his stuff - just he fails miserably when trying to communicate it!

Comment:
I would have enjoyed learning about communication systems. Instead I learned how to sit through 50+ minutes a day and pretend to understand what was going on. Cavicchi may be a genius but most students are not, and he doesn't realize that. Homework is unreasonably complicated and not explained at all. Would be nice if he'd teach Matlab techniques.

This guy is the definition of "jerk." He pretty much doesn't answer questions, and his lectures are the far side of worthless. When you go to ask him questions in office hours, he will often refuse to even look at you. Take as few credits from him as possible.

He is an excellent teacher. Just because he does not gear his lecture to the least intellegent in the classes does not make him a poor professor. He is exceedingly hard, but his classes are well worth the effort. His classes were the best preparation for grad school engineering that I had.

Very smart man, almost too smart. He has a hard time explaining the material in a way a student would understand. He was always more than willing to help out any student who asked.

He had no interest in helping anyone. Was mainly interested in showing how smart he was by placing answers on the smallest piece of paper possible. Should be in research, not teaching!
