Comment:

I'm taking Environmental Geology & I like this Prof. a lot. He is really smart, but not an arrogant jerk or a confusing geek like other Profs. He worked in the field as an engineer before he became a Prof., so he has great stories & experiences to share. The class is NOT easy, but it is very interesting. He seems to actually care about his students

I really liked this guy. I was part of a National Science Foundation Grant program & spent the geology week with Profs. Butkos & Tvelia. They are both very smart & nice. I am changing my major to geology because of Butkos. He is interesting, knows lots about groundwater & now I am very interested in water & protecting our aquifers.

I go to binghamton & needed a science, I took a class w/Butkos this summer. He's a smart & easy going guy. Class was Blended, so u do most of the work independently. Just meet for exams & to prep for lab projects. It's lots of work, but a great way to get a science course. If ur willing to work, its a great class. I really liked the dude!

I do not like science, but I actually enjoyed this class. The class is hard, lots of notes and studying. Prof. B is a funny guy, he seems to care about his students and he is always willing to chat when you have questions. We all need a science class to graduate, so I would recommend this class.

I took the Blended, so we only had 7 meetings. It was lots of independent work, many tests & I spent a ton of time doing the work. I really liked the guy, I wish I had taken his class during the day instead of the course at night. I think he is a very good teacher, & I know it would have been less stressful if I had more classroom time with him.

I ended up having to take his class twice because I dropped out the first time due to health reasons. I have zero regrets taking the hybrid class was the best way to finish a science credit. He's an awesome professor and he makes something as boring as geology fun and exciting he had me considering my career choices

If youre not strong in science dont take the blended course. I have a feeling he is an awesome teacher if you actually TAKE the course in the classroom. I feel gypped taking this course, I wish the classroom time was utilized better and not just for taking tests. its supposed to be a 4 hour class when you meet youll get let out right after exams

Online blended course. Huge workload, almost impossible to get it all done on time. We were told that the classes we meet for are meant for exams, lectures, and going over the PP. This rarely happened. You will teach yourself everything, youll go in and take a hard test every class and most of which is on it was not the homework youll study from.

You are assigned a huge amount of work to complete before your next class meeting.I thought I would be fine doing most of the work on my own, since its a blended course. He states that each class meeting is meant for lectures and going over power points. This rarely happened. You have exams every meeting and they are NOT easy, And I study a lot.

Hes an excellent teacher. He made class very interesting and I left everyday learning something new. He was an engineer prior to working at Suffolk and now thats what I want to do! Would definitely take again!

Professor Butkos was a great professor and somehow managed to make rocks an interesting topic. He's super passionate about geology and is extremely knowledgable about everything. His tests were easy as long as you study. He reviews before every test, and there's an optional final at the end of the year. Definitely would recommend his class.

I do not like science, but I like this guy. I am struggling to get through the class, Prof. B is helping me, & he seems to care. I will probably get a C, possibly a C+. Honestly I have worked less in other classes & gotten an "A". There is a lot of material to learn in a science class, & I think I am lucky I got this guy. I would recommend him!

This is one of the best classes I have ever taken. I am switching majors because of this class. Be prepared for a lot of information, but it is extremely interesting and professor B explains everything extremely well. Need to study, but there is an optional cumulative final that will replace your lowest exam grade. Highly recommend this class!

Prof. B. is a very decent guy. I do not enjoy listening to lectures about rocks, volcanoes & earthquakes, but he actually made the class interesting. Lots of material to learn, it is not easy. so plan on reading/studying. he is a good guy, a bunch of his students hang out with him in his class during Common Hour, i went a few times, he is very nice

Tough class with lots of material. Science is not my thing at all. This guy is actually very nice. Seems sincerely interested in helping students & is not an arrogant jerk like many other profs. He also helped me with my other coursework. He has a good sense of humor, has a bit of OCD, & he usually says or does something funny in every class.

he loves talking about geology & hydrogeology & he knows his stuff. kind of a cute sexy science geek . sometimes he wears jeans & field boots to class & it is very hot!! this is not an easy class. but all of his powerpoint notes are online & his tests are based on those notes. listen to his lectures, study the powerpoints and you will be fine.
