Daryl is awesome! No wonder he talks about stuff he's done, he has had an amazing career and we can learn from the things he has done around the world. How many professors give you their cell phone numbers and don't mind you calling all the time? I've never had one before!Too bad he's retiring, I think he's someone all future journalists should know

Comment:
I don't agree with his teaching style. He's entirely subjective, doesn't allow for diverse viewpoints, and belittles people for commenting - and then, grades students (20%!!) on participation in a 50-person class. Completely unfair. As well, the class was boring and useless, and yes, he does toot his own horn.

This class was definately an easy one. We watched video clips for the entire class, with only 3 short assignments. He is a nice guy, but I find he toots his own horn a little too much about what he did in "the business"

Daryl is the consumate gentleman, usually, but he takes journalism so serious that he sometimes blow his top when his students lack initiative. Maybe it's the kick in the ass some people need, and maybe sometimes it's directed at the wrong people.

Daryl is an excellent teacher. He helps those who are willing to learn and try hard. Journalism is a competitive, tough career and he's done the best he can to prepare us for that. I've found him an inspiring teacher & his encouragements keep me going.

He would tell many people in the class that he didn't think that they would succeed as journalists. People make mistakes, and if effort is evident, then we need encouragement, not someone who will unneccesarily criticize a person and make them feel badly.
