Comment:

Tests in this class are difficult and force people to memorize paragraph long answers. His lectures are difficult to understand due to the level of difficulty and most kids end up working on other homework during his class because they don't understand lectures. A really nice guy who's willing to help, but tests are unreasonable for course level

Pre-Pharmacy Student: GPA 3.91 Guide to getting an A: Do the homework and it's an easy 100%. Labs are an easy A as well if you show up to class and do them. Exams are NOT MULTIPLE CHOICE! All 4 of his exams are essay exams. No final either! Gives you a chance to show up for extra points for exams, SO SHOW UP! Gives you so many points back!

Professor Bailey was an amazing experience. Yes, he had long lectures, but they were often very well structured and his analogies and metaphors made it very easy to follow along the subject. He had a lot of homework and labs which made the class very intensive, but they were a lifesaver in grades. If you do all the assignments, you will do well.

Dave was a nice guy, a decent teacher, but he sets up his class wrong. I took a blended course with him. His class lectures were good, but he didn't put too much effort into them because you were supposed to learn online. His tests were big parts of your grade, but they were all essay. He provides a pool of all potential questions for practice.

Dr. Bailey is great! He's very easy to work with and makes an effort to be available outside of class. Unit exams make up a majority of your grade, but the questions are usually provided in advance of the test. I loved learning from him as he was clearly passionate about the class material. Take advantage of the optional sessions when you can!

Pretty easy class. He gives you practice exams that have all of the essay questions that will be on the actual exam, and he goes over all of the essay questions in class before the exam. There is a lot of homework, but as long as you do the assignments, you'll pass the class.

Was looking forward to taking my first biology class since i love it, but got to the first day of class and it was changed to almost an online class. The professor was nice at first but eventually became very rude and treated the class like we didn't know anything, when asking for help, it was even worse. Very bummed out after this class

Dr. Bailey was very knowledgeable about the subject, and he shares interesting articles throughout the semester. Teaches well, and very willing to stay after to help with any student concerns. A good grade is attainable without the textbook. I never bought it and got a B+. Labs/quizzes were pretty easy also. Overall, I highly recommend!

this was a very hard class. instructor was very knowledgeable about the subject and enjoyed teaching it but course was very hard. Tests are a major percentage of your grade. if you plan to take course my advice is to get a tutor during class because this class is crucial.

Very helpful teacher. He will stay after class, meet you whenever possible, just to help you learn the subject matter. One-on-one, he is very good at communicating concepts. But ASK QUESTIONS. His lectures can be a little spurratic and if you don't stop, things can get confusing. EXTREMELY GOOD TEACHER. RECCOMEND HIGHLY TO ANYONE TAKING BIOLOGY.

Great guy, but lousy teacher. he should have stuck to being head of the department.he is one of those teachers that knows his material so well that he thinks you should as well. instead of teaching he just talks. i am lucky i didn't fail.

What a great guy!! Take him if you want to LEARN something about biology. Class is always interesting and while getting a C in highschool biology, i pulled off a straight A in his class WITH having him at 8AM-11AM in the summer. Awesome person & great teacher. Won't find any classes like his here at CMU!

He does a good job in explaining things and is always there for questions. Some of his tests are extremely hard, but an A is still very manageable. From what I've heard he is the better teacher for 171. But... He does waste a lot of time on unimportant matters like telling us our updated grade every single class period (not even kidding...).

Comment:

Although Prof. Bailey's teaching style can be a little hard to follow at times, he goes over the material often and offers students the chance to ask questions. He wants his students to succeed and is very approachable. I would definitely recommend him as a professor.
