Worst Professor ever. Worst online class ever. You can tell he doesnt care at all about his students. His lecture videos are 2+ hours long with typos and errors. He gives ONE HOUR for a 50 question test. Ive never had enough time for his tests. Arent we taught to take our time? And when I emailed him about it,he didnt even respond. LOL THX PROF

I think its a requirement to goto class since I didnt get the textbook, but I know people that read the textbook. His lectures are long and boring but informative. He's very dry though. His tests aren't extremely hard they are online so get to know your notes beforehand.

The worst online class I have ever taken. He does not leave lectures open for the entire class, so if you are unable to log on and miss a lecture you can't go back to it. No study guide, No recapping lectures because he closes them, test are 90% of your grade and 10% is discussion board. Rude in email replies, if you can get him to reply.

I'm a straight A student at CSUF, taking a 300 level online class should have been a walk in the park but this was literally the hardest class I took all semester. Work load is no big deal, online posts here or there. But the tests, OMG. It's an online class to obviously, open books, open notes.. those tests are insane. Would not take him again.

Every week you have Video lectures (1-2 hours long)and easy discussion posts Exams are tough but the questions are taken straight from the lectures so you have to take really good notes. It took me until the third exam to figure out how to do well but I got a 90% on the final because I put a little extra time into taking notes on the videos

Three tests, with weekly online short discussions that correlate with an online video. Videos are usually an hour- hour and a half long; not bad though his commentary is funny. Exams are solely based on these lectures, so take good notes. There is extra credit, but its a lot of work for a couple of extra points. Overall good class!

Gives you 1 min per question on exams (50 of them) of 50 mins total. Lectures are long and lots of reading. 10% of grade is towards DB posts and 90% towards 3 exams that are impossible to answer in 1 min, so then the time runs out. I would highly not recommend this professor online.

He is an absolutely horrible professor! His tests are nearly impossible. You have 50 minutes to answer 50 questions, and most of the questions can't be found in either the textbook or the lecture notes. The class average for every test was a C-. He tells you not to take notes in class because the lectures are online, they aren't. Stay away!

read the book! it will help you with the test and study the notes. test is online and timed (50 minutes), time goes by fast so make sure you're prepared. one test, midterm, final and term paper (easy but do your research). Overall great teacher, very interesting lectures and I has great humor!

I took this class during the first session of Summer 2014 courses. No study guide for a 50 question in 50 min. test & all 16 assignments only counted for 1 point each. The assignments were easy but the test questions were hidden and part of very small details of material. I emailed him multiple times about my concerns & only received 1 email back.

I wouldn't recommend this teacher. In a communication class, discussions should be important, yet they are only worth 16 points in total. The tests do not focus on concepts, but rather small details hidden inside his lectures and the book. This class really isn't about learning about visual communication, but more about how good you are at MC tests

Comment:
DeVries' online lectures are time consuming. He hides the important information within lengthy filler information. Reading is important and may be the difference between an A or B. Discussion boards are easy and only require one or two paragraphs. There are 3 exams and 5 optional papers. DeVries replies to students' emails within a timely manner.

I took this class during the Summer of 2012, online. His lecture notes are set up exactely like the book but where the book might mention an example, professor Devries will actually show you the examples in his powerppoint presentation. The tests were open book/note and online. It is important to have the book and listen to lectures.

easy class. all three multiple test are online.dont have to attend class if its test day. BUT he only gives you an hour or so to answer a bunch of questions.have to attend class to get "possible test questions" and you CAN pass WITHOUT the book.only 1 paper but he grades real easy.:)

Dr. Devries is awesome! His lectures are interesting and clear. Tests aren't easy, but they aren't difficult either. He highlights likely exam questions/answers in his powerpoints, so go to class so you don't miss them! Funny, helpful, easygoing, great professor. Take his class!

Who cares about his cough, gees!! Give the guy a break! He reused his lecture podcasts from last summer. Class was simple, watch the podcast take notes on the terms highlighted in green, read, participate in the discussion board and take 3 online tests, non-cumulative. No term paper req'd for summer, and offers extra credit. Easy online class!

Don't take his online course. He coughs phlem in his mic (disgusting, annoying, disruptive) and doesn't let you see your tests. I'm sure he's okay in person - just don't do it online

Hes a good professor. Lectures are very intersting. A lot of youtubing. 3 multiple choice tests and one 5-page essay. This class can be esay if you study his notes and study guides. A lot of extra credit opportunities including coming to class. Tests are moderate in terms of difficulty. Just go over the study guides and you will be okay.
