Her lectures are okay, she can be rude sometimes. You definitely do not need the book, we picked it up once. She is really vague about what she wants you to write about in your reaction papers, and her group project was so unorganized and confusing. The midterm and final were weirdly difficult compared to the class itself.

She's very vague in her description of the response papers. I know the topics change every year but through both papers, I basically had to guess what she wanted. Her presentations don't make sense unless you sit in her class and if you have the 3 hour session then it feels like ages if you are not interested in writing.

I loved this class and Prof Wagner is very passionate about journalism. She teaches you an overall knowledge and broadens your perspective of the world around us. She is a tough grader, so follow all the guidelines for essays. Be in class for class assignments because they add up without you realizing (its okay to miss one or two classes)

She is very knowledgeable and passionate but I really didn't like her teaching style. Very cut and dry and almost rude to students. Attendance is mandatory. She is very disorganized and not clear when homework is due. Midterm was way harder than expected but the papers throughout are fairly easy. Take if you are serious about journalism

The language at this school is different an unique but didn't really understand the class very much. Use of the chronicle is a plus, but late class so it was tough.

Venise is basically really rude she will ask for someone's opinion and if she does not agree she will cut that person off or try to make them feel stupid. She is very unorganized and her power points are just the surface of the subject like I get we're in college and we need to learn on our own but her power point are way too bland.

Venise does a great job teaching the basics and introducing students to the journalism world. She's brilliant&SFSU is lucky to have her. She may not be lenient, but neither will your editor some day, she's doing you a favor. Speaking of favors, do yourself 1--if you're more than 2 min late, don't go to class. She will both call you out&kick you out.

Prof. Wagner was seriously my favorite teacher out of every one of my first semester at SFSU. She's considerate, open-minded, intelligent, and exceptionally thoughtful in all of her lectures. She doesn't take attendance, but you NEED to show up to class in order to pass. The lectures take up the entire 3 hours, but it's most definitely worth it.

Venise is amazing. As a journalism major, I had a harder time with this class than what I expected. We had two papers and a midterm/final. Study hard and you should pass. Attendance isn't mandatory but it most definitely helps. She's inspirational as well and you can tell she has a lot of passion for her subject.

Venise is an amazing professor, if you're into writing or journalism. Attendance is not mandatory but you will learn a lot from them. Her class really made me think twice about where our news comes from. Very interesting class, her essays are interesting and will make you learn new things. Long class, but very interesting & class discussions.

We did not even use the textbook once. She is a really tough grader, you can do everything she says and still get a D or a C. You must attend lectures to pass, each lecture is unorganized and hard to pay attention to. She does have favorites, and makes rude comments at those she doesn't like. In the end, I would not recommend her as a professor.

She is a great professor. Many of her lectures inspired me to continue writing and to really look into the media I read. There is little homework, but that means the assignments count for a lot more. Not an easy A but an interesting class. She is willing to help you during office hours!

She's a great professor that knows her stuff, but she's totally disorganized when it comes to assignments and lectures. Her powerpoints are not very helpful so you MUST attend class and PAY attention to lectures. Harsh grader, but attend office hours! She raised my D paper to a B. Overall, this is not an easy A class, you really have to work.

Nice and interesting teacher but a little sporadic. Assigns a bit of writing each week and only has two very long papers due in the year. Do the reaction papers! Attendance is not mandatory but missing class will affect your grade. Altogether, cool teacher but a little dull. Do not take for an easy A.

Don't take this class if you're not a JOURNALISM MAJOR. Save your time&money. Venise doesnt follow her office hours because she seems to have other priorities other than the success of her students. She is very black and white with her standards, leaving little academic freedom. Great mind, awful, irresponsible teacher.

Was not a fan of this class or the professor in particular. Her lectures were ridiculously long and hard to pay attention to. She was of little help when a problem occurred, due to her fault, and she took no responsibility for it. I felt disrespected as a student and would not recommend her class.

She was very insightful, with a midterm and a final test only. But requires essays almost every week. Be ready to write well and would not recommend for freshmen.

Wagner is definitely a professor that knows what she's talking about and you can tell that she is passionate about her lessons. The lectures are long and her slides can be a bit disorganized. Her tests are a breeze. DO THE REACTION PAPERS. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should come especially when you need clarification.

I dont know why Wagner doesn't have better reviews- I LOVE and respect this woman so much. Her lectures are very informative, the midtermsfinals are literally a breeze; as long as you show up and pay attention you will easily get above a 90%. You do have in class assignments that shouldn't be missed, though. Loved this class and would take again.
