This class is very difficult. You have something due every week.There is a lot of writing involved and it takes up A LOT of time.You will spend at least 5 consecutive hours in the darkroom. READ THE SYLLABUS CAREFULLY!He refers to it all the time. He is very sarcastic. This was one of the hardest and EXPENSIVE classes I ever took.Don't take

my camera was apparently broken from the beginning of the semester, so it was VERY difficult for my prints to come out the way they should. he helped me fix it, but only 2 weeks before the class was over. basically your grade depends on how much you suck up and how much he likes your work.. which is rare.

Freund is tough, no doubt. He grades projects based on writing skills and effort. I received helpful critiques and learned a lot from him. The class wound up costing me around $400 (not including camera purchase.) Only take this course if you are serious about photography!

Basic Photography- He forces you to like what he likes, write what he wants written, and thinks HIS way = an "A." I didnt get a good grade till I copied his sample writings and put aside my artistic creativity. LOTS OF MONEY SPENT, LOTS OF WORK (papers, tests and projects EVERY week), ARTISTIC ABLITITIES PUT DOWN. DONT take!

Hard grader, makes you do a lot of work, but I felt it paid off. Learnt a lot. Nice guy. Does talk a lot and becomes boring at times. Also will try to get you to print pics that you dont like but he does.

the class itself is a lot of work and very hard. he does his best to make sure that you understand everything, and he allows you to have your opinion. he critiques with honesty, and wont lie to you about your work. he holds class until the very end, so dont take another class right after this one.

possibly the worst prof ive ever taken. has his favorites, and anything else said is wrong. grades the paper more than the pictures. quizzes are crazy hard. class is a waste of time, its basically a time for him to ramble on about nothing of importance. contradicts himself way too much. will say that he likes it, but its just an average print.

he's horrible...the lab tech def helps you more...and it's like if freund doesn't like your pictures you will not get a good grade...he made me print something like 5 times before telling me he didn't like it to begin with. Very unhelpful and does not know how to teach first time students. Treats it like an advanced class....do not take him!!!!

he was very unclear on showing first time photography students how to use the dark room. i learned more from the dark room tech. maybe he should teach the class. i was always worried if Freund would like my photograph more than what i liked, and that doesnt make someone a good photographer in capturing the moment.

taught me SO MUCH about photography and helped me grow as a photographer. the only thing i can legitimately complain about is his complete unorganized fashion. he lost two of my projects. and thats kind of not okay.

Dave's a great guy and really pushes you to do the best photography you can. He doesn't let you slack off or space out. If you have a legitimate problem he's understanding. Not a teacher to take if you just want to try photography for fun but if you're serious about it he's FANTASTIC.

Ironically, Freud means "friend" in German. This man is no friend. "Art is what we tell you it is!" is his philosophy. Stuck-up, if your work does not meet his expectations, you'll be penalized with a C. Clear on most technical aspects

This guy is very close minded. He shows slides of paintings all class, and does not allow you to think for yourself. You must see what HE sees in each painting or photograph, or else you will get a bad grade. Very prissy and has a temper. FULL OF HIMSELF.

He's an excellent prof. and very kind, interesting, and funny. However, if you don't like doing work then forget it. He gives paper assignments like crazy. It's a challenging but FANTASTIC class! You'll improve your techniques!
