Avoid him if you can. If you like prof's with prepared lesson plans that are straight forward, DO NOT take this class. he was so all over the map throughout the entire semester, and it was virtually impossible to know what was going to be on the exams. basically, he just kept throwing balls around the classroom and told us to measure velocity etc.

I liked Sanderson. His lectures were interesting and well presented. The material sometimes took a bit of work to fully understand, but this is university after all. He is a really nice guy and is very helpful as long as you go to him with well thought out questions.

Comment:
As a person, Sanderson isn't a bad guy. His teaching leaves something to be desired. Some examples he won't explain clearly, and others her will go over far too many times. The lectures are boring, and exams are tougher than they should be. If you aren't good at physics make sure you get help outside of class in order to do well in this course.

You definitely need a good physics background if you have any hopes of understanding even half of the course. Very, very unclear, doesn't fully explain examples in class (will explain up til the point where you almost get it, then will go off on a tangent.) Wouldn't have taken this if it wasn't required.

You better know your physics before entering this class. Even then, have fun. Dont expect to be given any examples of questions. Also, dont expect Sanderson to help prep for a midterm or final. He just expects you to know.

Classes are unclear and what ever is covered in class has very little to do with exams. Teaches class like it's a review.

Difficult person to get along with; often condescending to students. Unfortunate as biomechanics could be a strong part of the Department

Don't take this course if you don't have to!! Argh its like a bad physics 11!! Sanderson is entertaining but lacks the teaching skills. Don't listen to the first years :P Its like learning physics from a monkey (short one)

Awesome teacher! He made the material very clear, and explained it in as many diferent ways as possible so everyone had a chance to understand it. Simple concepts with a lot of class time to go through it, so he really drilled the material in our heads, and made us apply it in different ways.

Tests are not so hard but very long. Make sure you finish them. Only took the course because it was a requirement and wouldn't recommend it as an elective.

The more challenging course in HKIN ever... but the small class size and interactive nature of the course makes this a must-take course if you can get through it.

This guy makes the course much harder then it is. A few key formulas would have been all that we needed but he insists on drowning the students in needless permutations of the same formulae. This course is essentially physics 11 but he insists on making the class a discussion instead.

He is disrespectful to students seeking help, unreasonable in evaluation, has told students that they are not intelligent. This man may be a good researcher but he is not a good teacher

This is most likely the hardest HKIN course in terms of volume to read, and having to think. However, if you make it through it is the most rewarding to. The small class size really does well to bring out Dr S.'s teaching style.

Interesting material but terrible class. Exam pretty tough. Condescending attitude. The year I took it students gave such bad evals that the next year some UBC officials sat in on some classes.
