Comment:
Prof Bennett gave long dry lectures but they were good, you have to be listen and keep notes, these will be helpful for reviewing for midterms. The slideshow is just pictures relevant to what he's talking about so you have to pay attention to what he's saying because thats the only place you'll get that specific info that might be on the final.

Professor Bennett teaches with a very dry tone in voice, but oh my goodness this man is so smart and intelligent in the subjects that he teaches. Bennett is very knowledgeable in everything he teaches, because the man has done it all himself. The lectures can be boring some days but overall the class just makes you want to learn.

Lecture is VERY long. 3 hours is tough for anyone, but if you pay attention a little bit you'll get a lot out of it. The review sessions are extremely helpful and will jog your memory about stuff you listened to earlier in class. He's a pretty easy grader, he wants to see what you know, not what you don't remember

Bennett is one of the professors that distinguishes The Maxwell School from the other schools at Syracuse. If you are truly an American History student, this class is as close to becoming a fly on the walls of the Oval Office/Pentagon as it gets... probably because Bennett was one. Don't be surprised if/when C-SPAN films a lecture or two.

The best class you will take at Syracuse. The readings are not necessary for the mid-term and it is a take home mid-term. Lectures are extremely insightful and you will learn everything you would ever want to know about WW1 and WW2. Take this class

Bennett is a brilliant student of history. He knows just about everything. Though, his class is difficult. Readings are dense and long. Total of 6 books and approx. 4,000 pages is a bit much for any class. Tests are essay based which I've never been a fan of. If you love to read take his class, if not stay away. Overall it was a good experience

Probably the best, most knowledgable teacher I've ever had. The class is long and not wall to wall laughs so to speak, but it's worth it for your life to take a class of his. Outstanding.

THE WORLD AT WAR! D. Bennett is a brilliant man and a fascinating, effective professor. Enormously entertaining and enjoyable. Tough grader, but not excessively. He is incisive and omniscient. I would audit his classes just to watch him talk. Nuff said.

He is by far the best History teacher at syracuse. You must take his class: World At War, HST 307, and HST 308 all three are amazing. He says things like "fall apart like a cheap toy" and "you know that" He is great must take him!!

Professor Bennett's expertise in the field of history is amazing. If you show up at his office hours unanounced, then yes he'll brush you off. If you show up during his office hours he is more than happy to talk to you. He is understanding and clearly cares a great deal about his students. Cannot recommend his courses highly enough!
