lectures are useless but you have to go, always seems unprepared, pretentious. i learned nothing in the class. grades fairly easily and assignments aren't difficult. really all you have to do is show up to class and watch the movies. but his lectures are like watching paint dry. feels like a waste of time and money.

Great guy. The participation grade can really hurt or help your grade. The books we read are really good and so are all the short stories.

He has a bad rep for being "boring," but I don't think it's fair for him to have a bad grade. Some of his lectures did drag on but his grading was lax, he was constantly available, and discussed a lot of things in class that he was looking for in homework. Nice guy. Had him for intro film and intro fiction. Hardest part of having him is attendance.

Super easy class. Theres a reading journal due each week thats very subjective so its free points. He says participation and attendance affects your grade heavily but I missed at least 5 classes and rarely spoke in class. I didnt read any of the books, just short summaries and I only read a few of the short stories and passed with a B

I showed up to every lecture I could (as useless as they were) and was at a 98% until the final exam which butchered my grade (unreasonable grading) only to end up just shy of an A (92.88). I pleaded with the professor to round up my grade or at least regrade my final exam, Nothing. (Too many As in the class I guess) This professor is a jerk.

I really liked Intro to Fiction. Classes are fun as it is mostly discussion based. I enjoyed the readings. Prepare for a weekly righting assignment, monthly papers, and a final paper. If you like reading, and are good at writing, this class is for you! He is explicit in what is required of you.

Lectures we're super useless. Ditched many times (had friend sign me in). It's film studies, should be fun, but he makes it so boring. In terms of class, pretty easy, no lie. Never did any homework. Final was on Carmen. If you take the class, you'll do fine, but it's just so boring. He also says "um" a lot, to the point where you can take shots.

This class is incredibly boring. Lectures are long and dry. He'll use way too many examples for one concept. Show up, pay decent attention, take notes, watch the movies, and you should be fine.

I am a film major so I thought I would love this class but Brewer is SO boring. His lectures are too long with dumb partner questions at the end. He always seems very unprepared in his lectures and says "um" after every word. He uses annoying hand gestures and speaks so softly, you can't hear him. My TA didn't seem to know much about film, either.

I feel that other comments specifically on this class with Brewer were harsh. He's pretty clear with expectations even if the TAs weren't. Brewer makes it fairly easy to do well and tries to make lectures interesting.

His lectures were a bit boring, but he covered a lot of material in a short time period. He would sometimes look above the students instead of right at them, which is a bit weird. He would occasionally make funny jokes or pop culture references. I felt that the grading by his TAs was incredibly easy.

Ah, do not take this professor for this class. I am senior English major, have an interest in the text that we were reading, but could not get engaged in his lectures. Save yourself the misery.

This class is truly a bore. Brewer is not interesting and neither are his TAs. The grading is extremely frustrating because the TAs will take points off of essay responses and quiz responses for not making points that were not asked of you in the prompt. It is as if they want you to read their minds. Waste of time. Awful class. Don't take.

Seemed somewhat average. Grading was completely at the hands of the TA, so I can't really fault him on that (even though I'm doing well in the class, it seemed designed for one not to get an A). Lots of reading. Did give a bonus. Sometimes condescending, but he had his moments. It just was bad to have this class in Gateway....

This is literally the worst class I have ever taken. It is SO BORING, the professor assigns way too much reading prior to each lecture, and the grading is ridiculous. Absolutely NONE of the material is interesting. Brewer is just awful. His lectures are useless, yet you are required to attend. I promise you will regret taking this class.

Extremely boring and seems disinterested in the class. Assigns ungodly amounts of reading, then assigns both a quiz and a midterm on the same weekend. Fortunately all writing is online. Sparknotes is essential to survive the class. Mandatory attendance is a bummer, though -- you could probably do just as well on assignments without his lectures.

I love this professor. Although his voice is somewhat monotone he tries to make the material interesting and occasionally makes corny jokes and bad movie references. The questions he poses in lectures are the exact same questions he asks on the midterm so pay attention and you will do fine. If your willing to do the reading then take this class.

Class is held in a movie theater. Lighting is dim and he doesn't keep your attention. Tons of reading for a gen ed! His TA's will grade you like you're in grad school. Feedback is sparse and not helpful. He phrases his questions very vaguely, but expects a specific answer. Avoid if possible.

This is literally the worst class I've ever taken and I took 8am calculus... Absurd amounts of reading for a GenEd, online quizes that open Fri @ noon & close Sat @ midnight, required attendance for a large lecture class, and unclear grading rubric. If you're looking for a fun, easy gen ed to meet your lit requirement, keep looking; this isn't it.
