Took Phil 121 with him back in the mid-70's, an EXTREMELY "popular" Phil course when I was at Hofstra in the late '70's. Course was "Philosophy of Love", and I will NEVER forget it. NOT because of what I learned about love, per se, but more about how the course taught me to THINK and CONSIDER.

I agree with all the comments. Dr. Cernic was the best and most dynamic teacher at Hofstra -- anybody know where he is today? I had him from 1982-1986. He has inspired my teaching today as a professor.

I graduated from Hofstra University 27 years ago. I took a philosophy course with Dr. Cernic out of interest in the subject and was so impressed with his knowledge and teaching style that I took every one of his courses. He is dynamic, incredible, and awesome! The best teacher I have ever had. To be remebered for the rest of my life!!!!

Amazing! He is one of the best teachers at Hofstra. The difference between Cernic and other teachers is that he actually understands the art and method of teaching. He is truly facinating

If you want a teacher in the truest sense, who actually cares enough about what he's doing to not let you just pass through, Mr. Cernic is the one. A gentelman and a scholar! He is the reason one goes to college.

A good teacher is one that can help you learn things on your own. For that, Cernic is a master. He gives you the tools and says=, "go". I never thought I would learn so much from someone that really never taught me anything specific.

Took this class years ago but he is the biggest jerk around. I would have been better off never showing up to class i failed anyways and he felt we should be happy to get Fs because we can come back to learn more.

Nothing special about him. Not interesting at all. Somehow I always came out of that class feeling very depressed (?) Very old-fashioned.

One of the greatest classes I took at Hofstra (Philosophy of Love). A passionate professor & great lecturer. He's a tough grader, but well worth it. I liked his disciplined style and no excuses attitude: a model for anyone to live by. Prof. Cernic: I wish you were still teaching at Hofstra. '02 alum

This guys idea of a "quiz" is 25 short answers in a 55 minute class. Then he tried 2 tell us that 2 mins per question was enough time. Not when you have 2 think then write a paragraph per ? Overall his class is interesting, its just hard 2 g

Found him interesting, insightful, but something about him left a bad taste in my mouth. Could be the arrogance/attendance policy(Commuting in the snow is difficult!!!). Also, never points out passages in the text. Who square dances still???

I had taken every course Dr. Cernic taught when I was at Hofstra. More than any other prof, he made me really think. Thank you for Teillhard de Chardin, Franz Buber, and Gabriel Marcel...I still think about that course. (alumni-75)
