I had Dr. Havird for Writing in Paris. He's an excellent teacher. He's a tougher grader than Dr. Hendricks, and he cares about grammar a lot. If you put in effort, he will help you though.

Very intelligent man. Really knows his stuff. Tends to take a Freudian approach toward literature. Will really shoot you down if you fail to complete the assigned reading or if you come to class without the text. Gives only two exams: a midterm and a final. Usually requires students to write three papers throughout the course. Rambles a lot.

Loved this class. Teaching style is Socratic (more discussion-based than lecture) and the assignments were all short-essay. As long as you know the literature, know basic rhetorical strategies, and can communicate well in class and on paper you'll do great! Dr. Havird can be kind of rambling but it's worth it for lit buffs!

He LOVES his own voice, goes around in circles, and sometimes it has nothing to do with the subject at hand. He will proof read your papers, use that to your advantage! Vague grading, but it's fair. Just read or he becomes the hulk, basically.

Loves his own voice. If your opinion differs from his, don't speak in class. Just show up, do the reading, and agree with him. His grading is hard and often subjective. I would not recomend taking him for any lower level class.

Enjoys hearing his own voice but that's ok because he has good ideas. Grading is a little vague but not too harsh. Not a bad choice for freshman english.
