Comment:

3500 with David Jackson was probably one of the most anxiety filled experiences of my third year. I spent more time than I should've teaching the course to myself, and honestly he wasn't of much help. Avoid if possible. Will make you want to rethink your finance concentration

Comment:

Teaches one thing in class and evaluates another thing on the exam. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!! Will make you question why you ever wanted to take finance in the first place

3500 with Jackson is tough. He does a terrible job in teaching the class. The midterm was more on the difficult side, but the final was absolutely brutal. Read the textbook for the short answer section of the final and midterm. Most of the practice problems are useless and do not appear on tests. Assignments are fair. Go to class or avoid him.

Jackson is a very dull and boring prof to have. Luckily, most of his 3hr lectures end after 2 hrs. If there is a better prof available then take them instead. The practice problems he assigns do not even show up on the MT or Final. Most of the questions on the exams are based off of the lectures. His MT & Final are fair. Assignments are easy As.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Never had such a bad professor in my four years of university. I'm an A student and I can usually get by on my own but not with him. The two classes that I had him for aren't even supposed to be that difficult, but with him you never know what to expect. You study the recommended problems and they aren't tested. AWFUL experience

Really confused about how he became a professor. Only reason I can think of is that Carleton put him there so that students would have to fail/drop/repeat the course, and that's how they would make there extra money. AVOIDE his classes if you don't wanna spend nights re-evaluating your life and why you picked your major.

Not sure why he's a prof at Carleton... absolutely terrible as he doesn't know how to teach. Mumbles and doesn't explain much in class. Quizzes and exams are not a representation of what is taught in class. Avoid at all costs

Not sure why people rate him so low. Lectures are straightforward and to the point. Midterm accurately reflected what was taught in class. Marking on problem sets was not always clear although thats probably more on the TAs than him. Allowed a cheat sheet for the midterm in place of a formula sheet which was nice

Well intentioned guy, wants you to do well and provides a lot of opportunity for dropping bad tests and often bumps up class average by a lot. He is very vague in teaching and somewhat inconsistent. He does not teach the course as it should be taught. Good prof for someone not looking to continue in Finance and just taking it because they have to.

The class is difficult, reccomend studying and reading the textbook as much as possible. Most of the assignment questions can be found online. Midterm and final exam material were mostly not covered in class nor the textbook. Prepare to be bell curved and hope it brings your grade to a decent mark. avoid at all costs.

I found the in-class instructions to be quite clear but if you asked him a question outside of class, you would never get a straight answer. The textbook is a necessary resource to practice for his exams. I found the second test easier than the first, and the final was reasonable. He's ok.

Took Applied Corporate Finance with him after having him for Busi2504. He really wants you to succeed and will remember you if you participate in class. Show up and pay attention and you'll do fine. Textbook was helpful to understand the theory more as a lot of the class was spent on understanding the math problems.

Make sure you go to class, everything on the midterms is covered pretty much in class examples. Don't bother with the textbook, the examples in there are different from the midterm and will screw you up. Decent prof overall
