Comment:

Great prof gave clear notes and learning outcomes. Told you what you needed to know for exams and would always answer questions in class. Midterm was very fair and assignments were pretty easy. Would reccomend.

Gene 370 is no doubt a tough class, however the way David presented the course did not help. He does not use a textbook, which because of the course material was bad since you are not easily able to find a second wording/resources to better understand the content. His test are difficult and require you to know his notes VERY well

One of the best profs I've ever had. His notes and learning objectives are clear and really useful for tests. He doesn't use a textbook, he tests off of his learning objectives. Great class and great prof.

David is very good at explaining and giving examples in order for you to understand. however his midterm and the final were very tough! so if you do take it with him, you do have to put in lots of extra work! not an easy proff

Nice enough guy, but not very helpful when it comes to assignments. He won't give you many clear answers when you ask questions either. Midterm was kind of tricky but the final wasn't bad.

David teaches the material slowly so it is very easy to understand and he has practice questions at the end of the slides. His assignments and tests are tricky and he expects a lot out of his students.

David is a great lecturer. He goes slow and makes sure everyone understands. You don't even need the textbook! He gives practice questions at the end of his slides. However, his tests and assignments are hard. He really expects a lot out of his students.

Davids a great guy, you can tell he truly care about your success in the class. he explains concepts in good detail. His tests were the usual, if you studied his notes presented in class properly , you will have no problem with achieving whatever mark you desire. Tough course but do able if you put in the work. Would take another course with him.

Excellent genetics prof, don't even need the textbook, his notes are good enough. Super helpful and friendly, midterm and final are straightforward, study the notes and really understand it. Also, he post practice questions at the end of the slides and textbook questions. 10 out of 10 would take again

A really awesome prof. His lectures are completely comprehensive and you don't need the text book. Make sure to study really hard for tests because unless you know the material really well, you probably won't do very well. His tests are very fair. Is super approachable and helpful. Pray you get him for all eukaryotic genetic classes!

His notes are so good that you dont really need the textbook but his exams are not easy and take alot of time to complete. His quizes in the seminar are also not easy but not super hard either. He is really approachable and super nice. one of the better profs!

David seems to have a genuine interest in BICM and seems to like teaching..however, by then end of the term the prof seemed less interested in the material. You HAVE to do the assigned questions from the text book and make sure you understand them. Stuff that hasn't lectured about but are from the questions appear on exams.

One of the worst instructors at macewan. Our first midterm way too long, second everyone finished 20 minutes early. Had to skip alot of the information at the end beccause he ran out of time, due to the fact he taught too much intro material. Does not know chemistry. Tries to make bioCHEM a bio course. Difficulty answering questions sometimes.

Seems like a good guy and really knows what he's talking about. Make sure that you get your info clarified if you aren't sure because you can't fake his tests: they will eat you alive. Always go to class and participate if you can because he seems to really take a shine to those who do. Good prof but a tough course!

McFadyen is a god! Seriously one of the best profs I have ever had, and certainly the best I've had in any science course. I've already finished my pre-reqs for my program and I'm considering taking another Bio just because he would be teaching it.

Comment:

Effective and knowledgable instructor BUT tend to be a hard marker. Exams are so-so but you should really study for them. I never liked his "apply your knowledge questions" because the questions are loosely connected to what you've learned. Overall, I'd recommend him to anyone though.
