Comment:
A real jerk. Hilariously overconfident in his own abilities, even when he's wrong. Don't, by any means, point out when he's wrong though. He'll retaliate on your grades.

I took the class online which made it hard because i had to teach the material to myself but whenever i needed help Professor Powers was always there when i needed him. I dont know how he is in a lecture environment but he seemed like he would be a decent teacher.

Horrible for an online instructor! Completely insulted me and was very rude! Asked me how I even got into the class! NOT VERY PROFESSIONAL!

Teaches right out of the book, and it is difficult to tell if he even knows how to teach. In order to get a decent grade you need to try to get on and stay on his good side. Pretend to be interested in the class and what he has to say, and ask frequent questions and you should be able to do ok.

This class is super easy to take online. Just read the chapters. Doing the practice questions isn't even necessary. The tests are very simple.

The only way you can do well in this class is if you already know and understand HTML and javascript. Teaching yourself this material is half the battle--the other half is memorizing pointless computer history and information for random stuff you will not ever need to know for any reason at all. Try to avoid this prof.

Completely unhelpful in class. A prior entry on this site refered to the "blind leading the blind", and this is very true. He didn't know the material before assigning or teaching. He might be a good professor if he only knew the material.

He does not teach!!! He left for a week and gave us three assignments on HTML when he hadn't even started teaching us it yet! He might be alright if you know some web design already, but he is horrible for first time learners because he just doesn't care.

I really learned a lot from Powers and for someone who isn't going into computers, I didn't think that class was that difficult. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you read and listen in class and make time to see him during his office hours if you need help. He was always very helpful when I met with him and you can really learn a lot.

Great professor when it comes to letting you figure everything out on your own. A perfect example of the blind leading the blind.

powers made it clear that if you needed help you could go to his office and get help. there were many times that i need extra help and he was always supportive. if you feel that powers was anything less a good teacher you are in the wrong field. CS majors should take powers.

His tests were really hard, esp. if you werent a computer nerd like me!!! He started going off on all of these terms and i was soo lost. He was not helpful when i came to his office, and his tests were really hard, im not sure if i made a C on any of them, the only thing that saved me was the assignments.

He's a fair teacher, and if you actually go & do the work, it's an easy grade. My only complaint is all the javascipt: It was a little too advanced for my taste--and I'm an English major, so I was lost half the time. But although some of the assignments were difficult he's more than willing to help.

Come on people this isn't high school! It is straight from the text. If you took the time to sit down with him he would have helped and explained it to you. For those that didn't put any effort into you can only bash yourself. He new the material and was very helpful.

I took this class online and it was a good choice. During the summer he's generally pretty easy on when you get the exams in; so you can get the class done as soon or as late as you have time for. He's very straight-forward and his exams reflect what you should know: no crazy challenge problems ;)
