He is a really chill professor, it's an intro class so he is obviously not going to overwhelm any potential soc majors. There are only 2 tests and the final is optional, so just study hard for the tests and your finals week will be so easy

Terrible! Only few valid lecture days. Heavy on textbook on tests, but not emphasized in class. Tests are 80% irrelevant to class discussion and lecture. Material is unclear. You would do better only reading the next and never attending class, because material learned in class is not tested. Close-minded professor. Do not recommend.

I don't understand people's comments about Dr. Redburn. I thought his class was really interesting and his tests, papers, and expectations. You do have to read the textbook and take good notes but if you do that you really should be fine.

He is a difficult professor. you really need to participate. His tests are all multiple choice, but the questions are very particular. For "outside" readings, we had quizzes everyday over the material. He's a tough grader on that kind of stuff. I would not recommend him as a professor. His lectures are not SUPER boring, but they're not good.

He makes it IMPOSSIBLE to get a good grade on the tests, considering its all on you to teach yourself the chapters, which he may or may not have gone over in class. And to the person who studied 13 hours:I studied 22 hours and still was confused by some of the questions. Just...don't take this class

this class is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. it has successfully ruined my academic career, as well as my personal life. i can no longer sleep at night, due to being terrified of having to take the class again. run forrest run

teacher was horrible and never helped any students at any time. this class is an easy D but you must work for it. The notes were useless because the tests were straight from the book. Could have just not attended class and made the same grade because of the lack of relevant teaching. Also prepare to bring your pillow when he shows the documentaries

Sure, Dr. Redburn doesn't spoon feed all the answers to the exam, but they are right there if you simply read the textbook. He never gives homework or daily reading assignments. There are no little quizzes to make sure you're keeping up. Even class participation is optional. His class is an easy A.

one of the worst teachers I have ever had. put 15-20 problems from the wrong chapter on one of our tests. then took them away and made the rest count more. true and false are ridiculous. not helpful. told us to study notes and then tested straight from the book. describes himself as a "flaming liberal". don't take his class.

Tests come COMPLETELY from the textbook, besides the short essays that you write from the assigned books we read for the class. Class discussions were ok, but he already has in mind what he believes is the "right" idea. Class participation helps grade. Nice person, but would have been a better professor if he actually tested us on class material.

Horrible professor. Tests came DIRECTLY from the book, (though he told us to study our notes) and are very specific. If you take this class, you will be turned off from sociology forever-he makes it way too hard for an intro class. Attendance is key, and know the text book like the back of your hand. I'd suggest a different prof. for intro to soc

He does describe himself as a "flaming liberal," but he is more than willing to help you if you need it. Some class periods would be spent discussing off topic subjects, but class participation is key, and become BEST friends with the textbook!!

Very dynamic professor. His lectures are interesting, and his genuine interest in everything he teaches makes class less like a chore. He is also very tolerant of student's opinions, and though he may not agree with them, he will always give students a chance to voice their opinions.

I adore Dr. Redburn! He has a great sense of humor, and honestly y'all - does his political stance have anything to do with his teaching? He certainly does not force liberal beliefs on anyone, so the last post is irrelevant. He's VERY helpful easy to joke around with.
