I took this class last year and absolutely loved it. It involved a lot of information but Shim made all the topics relatable and understanding with hilarious examples. Truly one of my favorite professors at BU.

There is no word in this world to describe how good his lectures are and I wish he can teach all of my classes.

The most amazing and hilarious lecture in BU. I barely go to classes, but the only classes I go is Doctor Shims. (attendance is NOT mandatory.)

Dr. Shim makes his lectures very interesting and engaging. Though he thinks he doesn't have a good sense of humor, I think that his dad humor is rather funny. He's just an all-around great guy to talk to about things outside of class.

His class changed my look on people and I've applied a lot of the things I learned in his class in my everyday life. He made me want to have a psych minor. He had real life examples of everything in his lectures. My tip is to have the study guide out during lecture and take notes ON the study guide.

The first few classes I had so much fun in his class. However when the time for the exams came I did not know how to study since his Powepoints consist of only bullet points with minor explanations. You have to attend and take notes in every class otherwise good luck with studying for the exam. If you do decide to take his class go to office hours.

Prof Shim is an amazingly hilarious lecturer. Attendance and participation help in the discussion but that may vary depending on TF. Make sure to show up to class because powerpoints contain barely any info and anything he says in lecture is FAIR GAME in an exam. Fast note-taking is essential!!! Not an easy A class but not bad. No extra credit.

Shim is the best Psychology professor I've had so far at BU. He often includes real-life examples from the clients that he has, he is open to questions for the class, and he is very inspirational in his lectures. You need to study for his quizzes/tests, but as long as you take good notes in lecture you should be good.

He does a good job making the lectures funny and engaging. He uses a lot of real life examples, which can distract from the important info needed for the test. The book is completely useless, so going to lecture and discussions are important. Overall, the class isn't too difficult if you take good notes during lecture and study for the tests.

He is someone I hope to be like in the future. ;) Still, he tends to diverge when he lectures. (sometimes the divergence helps to elucidate a concept, but sometimes the divergence is unnecessary for explaining basic concepts. also, there wasn't a paper, just a group presentation, so check with him which he would be using for your semester.

He can be really challenging. His classes are very story based. He doesn't put most information on powerpoint so he pushes you to focus. For his class, you have to learn from stories instead of learn through straight memorization. His stories make sense together but you have to make the connection yourselves. After him other psy classes seem easy.

Although he's funny and a great person - his lectures are anecdote heavy. He goes off on tangents A LOT and it messes with the flow of information. He's had amazing and interesting experiences, just wish he'd be more clear with his explaining and information. SO many questions on our tests that left me thinking "wtf when did he talk about this?"

His class is filled with jokes (some of them are not funny at all) You have to pay attention to every single word of him to secure important knowledge. In addition, taking this class may be very challenging for ESL students. He speaks too fast and does not have enough logical connection. I dropped his class.

I honestly did not like Dr. Shim at all. His lectures consisted of him telling us about his life rather than going through the content. When it came to exams, it was all self study. I had to see the TA several times to clarify things. Dr. Shim hardly taught anything! He just tried to make the class laugh about his life - no one cares!

The worst professor I've had at BU. I think most people on here are distracted by the fact that he's funny and makes lecture "fun," but as a teacher, he's a mess. He spends half the class talking about his personal life, leaving me confused and unclear on the material (that I later end up googling before the exam). Rude & egocentric man.

His lectures consist mainly of anecdotes from his life, and can dilute the information that needs to be learned for the exams. However, he is an engaging lecturer and has a good sense of humor. Be sure to complete the exam study guides that he provides in order to prepare for exams.

This guy is the best. His tests are hard to find answers to, you have to really read to understand not always tested on facts but more on understandings too. overall, a really great guy and im happy to have taken his class.

He is the most funny guy among all professors I've met. But, I often have hard time to take a note especially in his lecture. Since his ppt and textbook are not helpful to do a good job on exam, you should really focus on single voice of what he says, and this makes me difficult to organize or jot down important information.

Professor Shim is extremely unclear during lecture about exam expectations. Even if he does cover the topics that are on the exams, the way he explains them confuses me. Yes he is funny during lecture, but it is all about him and his ego and not about how much you are learning. He doesn't care about you or your grade.
