Comment:
While not the greatest professor I do enjoy the critical discussions of the material. There is a lot of ground to cover and he is not able to make students understand everything he is trying to teach. I wouldn't recommend him unless you can devote 4 extra hours a week to his material. Hard class but not as bad as posts lead you to believe.

Quizzes are given at the beginning of every class. If you are late, you get a zero. I?ve taken stats and calculus before and this class worsened my understanding of the material. This professor assigns hours of book work. How does one learn statistics by defining terms? Not me. This class has made me certain that GW?s MBA program is not for me.

Prof Zalkind tries hard to get students to think about stats critically, which is great. However, his lectures are inefficient and boring; homework and exams (which are take-home) are arduous. Consider another prof for this class.

Comment:
This professor is blatantly disrespectful of students enrolled in his night courses. He assigns unrealistic amounts of homework for students enrolled in the part-time MBA program. He is incredibly offensive and rude. I absolutely do NOT recommend this professor. If he is the only person offering a course, WAIT a semester or two.

This class was a lot of work for a part time MBA student. Expect to spend at least five hours a week on the homework for this class alone. Take notes in class. We had two take home exams and a pop mini quiz every class.

I strongly discourage you from taking class with this Prof. He enjoys belittling his students - not *in* class, but be careful if you ever need clarification or help outside of class!! Also, his entire Ops. Mgmt. class is focused on teaching students Excel functions and very little about theories or practice of Ops. Mgmt.

Not sure if I would describe his personality as abrasive/pompous...more quirky. Agree with the others on homework. More than I expected. Good class overall. Some good takeaways. He tries to make it applicable to students and doesn't focus overwhelmingly on the math. He realizes that most students are required to take it. Wants students to learn.

Structure/content of class was good. Z teaches Stat not from math persp. but uses a logic-based appr. Expect to spend min. five hours/wk outside of class if you have never taken Statistics. Abrasive personality biggest negative (asked if there were any social science majors to mock).Politicians not professors are expected to be arrogant/pompous.

I had this professor for both stats and operations mgmt. These were the most practical classes I have taken at GW to date. He teaches you how things can go wrong or be deceiving. A very interesting take on things.

Good lecturer, always well prepared. A little more homework than necessary, but you will learn the material. Some of us work full time, so I wish he didn't weigh grades so heavily towards homework and "mini-quizzes". I suspect that even if I ace all of the tests I may not get an A. If I'm in a time crunch my job will always come before my homework.

Professor Zalkind is demanding and pompous - everything a real professor should be. He doesn't coddle students like the rest of the PowerPoint reading faculty. He's very tough - but also very fair. I was actually awful at stats and found him to be very receptive in helping you if you actually came to see him and were prepared!
