David is an awesome teacher, sad to say he is retiring after this semester. He is harsh in class, but that is the best way to learn. And it is not like he doesn't tell you what's good about your work either. His expectations are high, so that way you will learn something. Grammar is something everyone should know, and he drills it to you.

All I have to say is if you have a shred of emotion in you, or sense of passion with regard to your writing, this is not the class for you. For, if your writing relflects any of the above characteristics, you will be penalized for it: Harshly. The average mark on most poems in my class was C or C+, and I refuse to believe we are all inept. AVOID!

Very anal about GPS, even with free verse poetry (which he encourages). Is virtually heartless- don't use emotion in your work or you will only get a C, at best. Doesn't give many suggestions on how to change what he doesn't like. Avoid him/this course if you actually like poetry.

Lots of fun and got to know everyone since the class was pretty small. Workshopping was hilarious since there were quite a few comical stories. Learn your GPS and you'll have no problems. Best class ever.

If writing's your thing, this guy's the perfect "Intro" teacher. The workshop-based analysis is very effective and social. Will help you become outspoken in your other courses, too! All-in-all a great teacher and writer. Helps you improve your writing dramatically! (Mind your GPS, though!!!)

"Is depressingly attached to mainstream literary convention. Depressing overall." I've heard people say this, and then I wrote the most bizarre uncoventional stories I could think of and got good marks. Maybe your writing is poor.

He knows what hes doing but the option to do your own thing isnt really there you kinda have to adjust to his style in order to get a good mark in class and even that is hard to do, but you do learn alot from his class, and if you are serious about crwr then you can benefit alot from his class.

BEWARE: IF YOU MISS 1 CLASS EVER THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SEMESTER, YOU CANNOT GET AN A! Of course, he tell us near the END of the semester, after I missed just 1 class. He is also very very mundane, doesn't do anything different, and I would NOT recommend him at all to anyone.

Takes a formulaic, scientific, and altogether mundane approach to writing. Marks more on format than on content, and marks down for taking a creative approach to structure. Is depressingly attached to mainstream literary convention. Depressing overall.

ugh, awful teacher. You do the same thing every day and get put into groups. Gives bad marks if you aren't constantly putting up your hand in class.
