Worst Prof or teacher that I've ever had. Not very helpful and barely lets you talk to her during office hours. Rips students apart in front of the whole class if she doesn't like your idea or opinion. If you need to take GNED 1401 take it with any other prof.

LOTS of reading and writing. Funny and intelligent. Tough marker but good prof. Don't be late and the final exam is easy if you practice and manage your time. EAT BEFORE. She also likes a natural tone in writing. Use lots of good research.

Show up and do the work, simple. She can be pretty unpredictable with her marking but if you take criticism well, show that you're improving, and work hard, she'll reward you big time. Just be sure that you follow her instructions to a T because if your writing is great but your organization, indenting, MLA format, etc is bad, she'll dock marks.

Took this course in my first year. I am an A student and now that I'm in my fourth year, I still consider this one of the most difficult courses I've taken. Majority of the class ended up with C's. Save your confidence and GPA - would not recommend taking this course.

At first, Deb is very intimidating but by the end of the class, I really enjoyed having her as a professor. She is a tough marker but is willing to help you improve if you ask. Her lectures could get a bit long, but she tried her best to make the course material interesting and engaging.

I cant help but rate Deb when I read some of the negative comments about her. Deb is a no-nonsense instructor who really knows her stuff. For her class, you will do well to attend classes, complete your reading responses, and assignments on time. About the final paper, make sure that you follow the instructions; otherwise you may get a a D.

For those of you who say that there is no way to pass her class, it's deadly wrong. I'm an ESL but ended with a B+ in her class. Deb was super helpful, she gives useful feedback and truly cares for her students. As long as you show up in class and do the work, it's impossible to fail this class.

Deb may come across as mean or tough but these are misconceptions. She expects you to do your work and participate in class. She shows that she cares by going over basic grammar at the beginning (because that is a huge part of the course) not because she has to but because she's wants to. Deb gives some awesome feedack if you listen to it.

She is an extremely hard marker for a first year course. She gives great feedback but nothing is ever good enough for her, even when you feel so confident on an assignment. I worked my butt off all semester for a flippin C. She gives a ridiculous amount of attitude to students who ask questions to clarify things and she calls students out

This class seems like it would be helpful in an academic setting. It is not. Deb spends more time complaining to the class and talking down to students than she does teaching the content. She marks at a fourth year english degree level and not on a first year gned degree level. If you don't know everything there is to know going in, good luck.

I really enjoyed her class. I was weary of it at first, especially after receiving a C- on my critical analysis, but after reading her comments and applying them to my writing, I received nothing lower than an A. I truly believe she wants all of her students to succeed, and I don't find her standards to be that harsh.

Unrealistic marking even though it is a first year gned class. This class left me feeling stupid and she gives F's when you know you don't deserve the mark. Apparently, skipping a few classes also results in an F in participation. Just do yourself a favour and switch prof's.

I have disliked about two people in my life and Deb has definitely made that list. Every time we received an assignment I found myself confused and not understanding the criteria as much as I wanted to. She made me feel stupid in her class and did not project a welcoming vibe, I never once felt comfortable. If possible pick a different teacher.

If you weren't good at writing before this class you're not learning much here! Tough grader and is more lenient with people who participate more in class. Good luck to anyone stuck with her.

She is smart and definitely knows what she's talking about but she is a tough grader and a bit biased when it comes to you having your own ideas. Make sure you know how to spell before taking this class.
