She knows her stuff after nearly 30 years of teaching and she cares about your success if you do. She'll embarrass you in class if you're a problem child, but still means well. I took the hybrid course where online exams are done at home and not proctored, which helps. Must be self-directed and study to get an A in hybrid. Gave 25 points ex credit

Deb is great! She clearly loves her field and her passion shines through her teaching. She is readily accessible outside of class and will give you great feedback. Will work with you/wants you to succeed. Her LABS are amazing, her lectures are eh; it seems she does a lot better in an applied science sort of way. Still, she's a gem, and such a mom!

would recommend for Microbio. She really cares about her students. MANDATORY THAT YOU SHOW UP TO PASS. Tests based totally off lecture powerpoints; barely used book at all.

She is really passionate about Micro and takes the time to make sure you understand the material. You must come to every lab otherwise you'll get behind because there's a lot of material. I took her hybrid lecture and the test were easy to pass. Offers extra credit. She can be intimating but she only wants the best for her students.

This professor seems to have more patience for younger students than older ones. Very knowledgeable. Anal retentive, explains thing as if the class were full of five year old's. Make sure you attend every lab! She will call you out in class if you are late. Does not give partial credit for essay exam questions worth 10-30% of exam.

She knows her stuff and makes a difficult class more enjoyable. Lab is fun and she explains things well. The lecture portion is info-dense and takes a lot of time and studying to get it all in. She's open to questions and helping you understand difficult topics.

She's passionate about micro and it shows. Anyone doing poorly in her class is not making the effort. She clearly outlines her expectations and expects them to be met. If you aren't willing to make an effort, the health sciences are not for you.

I understand that Microbiology is difficult, but I stressed and labored over this class to get an A to no prevail. The second you miss 1 assignment it's extremely difficult to raise your grade back up. The only way I learned anything was through the book; her notes and reviews are useless and if you don't sit in the front, she skims over you.

I was gaining prerequisites for a Master's program and took her Microbiology class. I had to drop because of health reasons. However, she was one of the best professors I have ever had. The people that did not like her class most likely did not take the class seriously, broke class rules, or failed from lack of effort. I would take her class again.

Professor Scheiwie is an amazing teacher! When I first walked into that lab, I was so scared I was going to fail, but she makes sure you understand. You can tell she loves microbiology and loves teaching it. You won't do well in this class if you don't work hard. But she will help you if you reach out. Incredible teacher!

Her lectures are very thorough and explaines difficult concepts well. You can print off her notes which I love ed. This allows you to listen more during lecture. Her tests are from her notes. Yes! it is a lot of information. Be prepared to study. She does give extra credit. You will get out of it what you put in. She is helpful.

She's an amazing professor that lectures incredibly well and she's quite reasonable. She has a tendency to be passive aggressive and condescending, but I think that's just a part of her personality. Overall she's nice and helpful, just don't take her quips to heart.

I took her for lab only and while she explained things well she also talked TOO much and then would give us just barely enough time to finish. Expects us to know everything and will call you out if you didn't prepare for the lab. I liked this class only because I enjoy micro but not because of her!! 10/10 would not recommend

Deb is so sweet! She is so passionate about her students. She is very chatty and gives a lot of instructions at once. If you get overwhelmed easy, try not to stress. Once you start doing things in lab, the process is much easier. Don't procrastinate on studying for tests because there's a lot of information you're tested on.

Deb is awesome professor. She makes learning biology fun and exciting. You have to do the work in order to receive the grade. She will call upon you for answers in class and if you haven't read the material she will call you out on it. I would definitely take her again.

While she is clear as to what her expectations are she does not foster a positive learning environment. For example, she berates students for asking questions and is visibly annoyed when a student does not know the answer to a question she asks. I would not recommend her.

Do yourself a favor and avoid her class. If you like a fast paced class that doesn't leave anytime for questions, then this is the class for you. She works off of power points and flies through them way too quick. Her class was impossible for me to keep up and I have A's in all of my other classes. She doesn't hesitate to call you out in class/lab.

I loved Deb Scheiwe's class. She is an excellent instructor! Very clear. Very helpful. She tells exactly what to study for lab tests. If you listen & do the work you will do very well. Word to the wise . . Deb takes lab safety very seriously and she is not hesitant to embarrass you if you make a dumb mistake by breaking ANY lab safety rules.

Don't take this professor. She looks down on students and makes you feel very dumb. She rolled her eyes at a student all the time. DONT TAKE HER. She is very knowledgeable but thats not all I expect from a teacher. If you are even a minute late she will call you out on it.
