Comment:
She's passionate and kind and knows what she's talking about, but she tends to ramble on. She starts to talk in circles a bit the last 20 minutes of each class, which is hard to sit through. But she has clear grading criteria, is engaging, and is flexible with due dates / extensions. She treats us like adults, for the most part.

ENG240 Allows re-writes on first essay and grades it hard. She is very understanding of students' busy lives if you play sport etc. Her voice can put you to sleep, and she can drone on (lots of "ums"), but she has vast knowledge. Stay on top of reading and stay engaged, or you will fall asleep. Overall, great teacher. Required class though.

Professor Laycock is fantastic! She's a brilliant professor who really engages her students. She is truly passionate about teaching and literature. Go to her office hours - she is great to talk to, and she'll really help your work. Do the reading, go to office hours, and you'll absolutely enjoy her class. One of Kenyon's finest.

A kind lady with a surprising sense of humor! She made class FUN. The only thing is that her voice is so calm, it leads to sleepiness. Also, you must have specific Q's for her office hours, or else you'll just have a conversation. She's not a harsh grader, but is fair. Early 18th Century Literature is a great class!

Oh, Laycock. She's perfection. One of the saving graces of the otherwise ridiculous English department. Tough grader? Nah, but she's wonderfully constructive in her comments. Wish I could've taken more classes with her.

Wonderful!!! I can't possibly say all the great things about Prof. Laycock in 350 characters!!! She is the best. I look at my first response and last paper and see true improvement in writing in only a semester.

She's awesome. A sweet woman with great music taste. Her voice can be somewhat sleep-inducing. She gave me a paper extension and didn't even want an explanation. A really interesting, fun class with great reading. She's rambles a bit, but is still very clear. A tough grader, but approachable and not intimidating, which is refreshing.

One of the two best English professors I ever had (the other being Kim McMullen)--and that was in a department that was almost uniformly exceptional.

Laycock is magnificent: witty, encouraging, always inspiring. It was her 18th-century class that made me decide to declare an English major. CanLit was the best class I've taken at Kenyon. I doubt I'll ever see a more interesting reading list, not to mention the music, films, and art that form a fascinating approach to an obscure subject.

I took Canadian Literature my sophomore year at Kenyon, and while the course did not grate knowledge into me re: Smith, I felt imbued with knowledge after leaving each class. Professor Laycock became my advisor following completion of the course. I wrote my comps inspired by her teaching on a Canadian author. Although I have graduated, I still emai

Very boring class: the Restoration is a formula. She tries really hard and she knows a lot, but never managed to make the class into a discussion.

hard grader but she isn't unreasonable and her comments are perceptive. the material itself is boring but she makes it interesting in class. this class is about satire so it really expands the way you think about literature because everything you read is so contradictory. class discussions are excellent. you will learn A LOT from this class

Laycock was by far the most understanding teachers i had this last semester. She doesn't have the most commanding presence in class, but that works better in some ways because she connects with her students more than other teachers i've had.

Great teacher, I highly recommend taking her classes. She seems to get as annoyed as the rest of the class with the typical Kenyon English student who thinks everything they say is brilliant, which is fun to see.

Any woman who can quote Monty Python is hot, but a woman who can quote Python and analyze the Kids in the Hall is crazy hot. She is the reason I'm an English major.
